The European Men's Handball Championship is the official competition for senior men's national handball teams of Europe and takes place every two years since 1994, in the even-numbered year between the World Championship. In addition to crowning the European champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games and World Championship. The most successful team is Sweden who have won five titles. Spain, however, have won most medals.

They have also achieved international success, by winning the EHF Challenge Cup twice, in 2002 and 2003. The home arena of Skjern Håndbold is Skjern Bank Arena. This handball club has developed several professional handball players such as Kasper Søndergaard, Jesper Jensen, and Claus Møller Jakobsen.
Anders Dahl-Nielsen is a former Danish handball player and coach. He competed in three olympics; the 1976 Summer Olympics, in the 1980 Summer Olympics, and in the 1984 Summer Olympics. At the height of his career he was regarded as one of the best handball players of his time. He is with 610 goals the third most scoring player for the danish national team. In 1977 he was awarded the best male player of the year in the Danish League.
Michael Vestergaard Knudsen is a Danish former team handball player. He is a European Champion, having won the 2008 European Men's Handball Championship with the Danish national handball team. He received a bronze medal at the 2007 World Men's Handball Championship, where he was voted into the All-star-team. In 2011 he won a silver medal at the world championships, with Denmark losing to France in what was described as "the most thrilling World Championships final since decades".
Kasper Søndergaard Sarup is a former Danish handball player for Skjern Håndbold and the Danish national team and current handball coach.
Rikke Erhardsen Skov is a former Danish team handball player and Olympic champion. She received a gold medal with the Danish national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. A loyal player of Viborg HK, Skov joined the club yet as a teenager in 1994 and it remained her lone team till she retired in 2016 and retired from active sports when she became pregnant in February 2017.
Lars Møller Madsen is a Danish team handball player. He has played for the Swedish clubs IFK Kristianstad and HIF Karlskrona, polish Wisla Plock and Danish side Skjern Håndbold. He ended his career in 2008.

Vignir Svavarsson is an Icelandic retired professional handballer. He enjoyed his very long playing career which started in 2000. In 2005 he left Iceland to join the Danish club Skjern Håndbold. He has subsequently played for TBV Lemgo, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and GWD Minden in the German Bundesliga and HC Midtjylland and TTH Holstebro in the Danish league and concluded his handballing career in Haukar. He was a player for many years of Iceland national team, captained them for Euro 2016.

Sander Sagosen is a Norwegian professional handball player for Kolstad Håndball and the Norwegian national team. At club level, he has won major titles in four countries, including league championships in Norway, Denmark, France and Germany. With the national team, Sagosen placed second at the World Championship in 2017 and 2019, and finished third at the 2020 European Championship. Sagosen was included on the All-Star team for five consecutive major international competitions as either best centre back or left back.
