Nordstrand Idrettsforening is a sports club in Nordstrand, Oslo, Norway. The club has sections for alpine skiing, association football and handball. It formerly had sections for orienteering, track and field and Nordic skiing. The club colors are white and blue.
It was founded in 1919 as a merge between Skiklubben Freidig (founded 1891) and Sportsklubben Grane (founded 1893). [1] The club counts 1891 as its founding year. [2]
In 2009 it incorporated neighboring club Ljan IF. [2]
In handball the club has won the National championships several times, both the men's and women's team. Notable players are Heidi Sundal, Susann Goksør Bjerkrheim, Else-Marthe Sørlie Lybekk, Alma Hasanić Grizović, Amanda Kurtovic and Vilde Ingstad.
The women's team currently plays in the First Division (second tier), and the men's team plays in Postenligaen (first tier) as the cooperation team BSK/NIF which is fielded together with neighbors Bækkelagets SK.
Grane was a founding member of the Football Association of Norway, and also became the first Norwegian Football Cup champion in 1902. [3]
The men's football team plays in the Third Division, the fourth tier of Norwegian football.
Freidig and Grane were both skiing clubs. Freidig had the ski jumping hill Lerskallen, which was later taken over by Grane and then Nordstrand. The clubs had several able skiers. The highest ranked competitor at the Holmenkollen ski festival was Herman Huitfeldt, who placed seventh in the Nordic combined in 1895. Walter Aigeltinger finished third in the B class in 1902, and also played on Grane's football team. Th. B. Dürendahl and Wilhelm Wettergren competed successfully in Central Europe in the early 1900s. The club's best known member is alpine skier Kjetil André Aamodt. [1] [2]
Athletics was added to the club's roster in 1921. [2] Rolf Johannson became Norwegian champion in the 1500 metres in 1930, and also took a silver medal in 1929 and bronze medal in 1933. In 1929 he also took a bronze medal in the 800 metres. [4] [5] In the throwing events, Halfdan Johnsen took silver medals in shot put with both hands in 1925 and 1926, [6] whereas Joel Arnesen won a bronze medal in the triple jump in 1929. [7]
In orienteering the club won the relay at the National Championship for men in 1947, and for women in 1974. [1]
Olav Bjaaland was a Norwegian ski champion and polar explorer. In 1911, he was one of the first five men to reach the South Pole as part of Amundsen's South Pole expedition.
Jørgen Rostrup is a Norwegian orienteering competitor, two times winner of the World Orienteering Championships, Short distance in 1999, and Classic distance in 2001. He also obtained bronze on the Short distance in 2001. He is two times Relay World Champion, as member of the Norwegian winning teams in 2004 in Sweden, and 2005 in Japan. He also won the Jukola relay in 1999 and 2001.
Idrettsforeningen Skarp is a Norwegian association football club from Tromsø, which currently plays in the Third Division, the fourth tier of Norwegian football. The club was founded 30 June 1919 and its colors are black and white. It is the third best football team in Tromsø, after Tromsø IL and Tromsdalen UIL.
Ragnhild Bratberg is a Norwegian orienteering competitor and a cross-country skier. In orienteering, she won the overall Orienteering World Cup in 1988, and represented Norway several times in the World Orienteering Championships relays, winning medals in 1985, 1987 and 1991. In ski orienteering she won four individual gold medals at the World Ski Orienteering Championships, and once in the relay. She was awarded Egebergs Ærespris in 1988.
Ola Skarholt, was a Norwegian orienteering competitor. He became Relay World Champion in 1970 as a member of the Norwegian winning team, which also consisted of Stig Berge, Per Fosser and Åge Hadler. Skarholt placed fourth in the individual contest.
Bækkelagets Sportsklub is a Norwegian sports club from Bekkelaget in southern Oslo, founded in 1909. The club has sections for skiing, orienteering, handball, football, floorball and track and field athletics, previously also bandy. It is known for organizing one of the world's largest youth football tournaments, Norway Cup.
