Serantes' win marked the first time in 24 years that an athlete from the Philippines won an Olympic medal since boxer Anthony Villanueva, his head coach, won a silver medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics, and he became the sixth Filipino overall to be awarded an Olympic medal.
Issake Dabore was a boxer from Niger who mainly fought in the light-welterweight and welterweight weight classes. Dabore competed at three Olympics; Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968 and Munich 1972. He was the first Nigerien person to compete at the Olympics and the first Nigerien to win an Olympic medal. Dabore won his Olympic medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where he won a bronze medal in the men's light-welterweight.
Otto Babiasch is a German former boxer who won the bronze medal at the 1961 European Amateur Boxing Championships in the flyweight category, representing East Germany. He competed for the SC Dynamo Berlin / Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo. He also competed in the men's flyweight event at the 1964 Summer Olympics.
Fernando Atzori was an Italian flyweight boxer who won a gold medal at the 1964 Olympics. In the final, he defeated Artur Olech of Poland, despite suffering an eye injury. After the Olympics, he turned professional and won the European title in 1967. Atzori defended it nine times before losing it in 1972. He then regained it and lost again in 1973. Atzori retired from the ring in 1975.

Gyula Török was an amateur Hungarian boxer. Competing in the flyweight division, he won the national title in 1957–58, a silver medal at the 1959 European Championships, and a gold medal at the 1960 Olympics. He subsequently moved to bantamweight and won three more national titles, in 1961, 1962 and 1964. He lost to Italy's Primo Zamparini in a quarter-final of the 1961 European Championships, and to Russia's Oleg Grigoryev in his first bout at the 1964 Olympics. Török retired from competitions in 1966 and for 40 years worked at the Kispest Granite Factory. He simultaneously coached boxers at Építők SC in 1976–78 and at Csepel SC in 1978–81. In the 1990 he also worked for the national boxing team and the Hungarian Boxing Federation. Török was Jewish.
René Jules Libeer was a French flyweight boxer. Competing as an amateur he won bronze medals at the 1956 Summer Olympics and 1957 European Championships. Next year he turned professional and in 1965 won the vacant European title against Paul Chervet. After defending it three times he lost it in 1967 to Fernando Atzori. Their rematch the same year ended in a draw, after which Libeer retired from boxing.
Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo is a Cuban boxer, best known for winning the junior world title at lightweight in 2006, a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and a gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He went on to add to his already impressive Olympic resume by winning another gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo at 33-years-old.
Artur Olech was a Polish boxer. He was born in Lviv, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union and died in Wroclaw, Poland.
Alexander Nikolov is a boxer from Bulgaria. He competed for Bulgaria in the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan in the light-heavyweight event where he finished in third place.
Nam Singh Thapa was a boxer from Nepal who participated in the 1964 Summer Olympics, Tokyo.
Paolo Curcetti was an Italian boxer. As an amateur he won the Italian flyweight title in 1957, 1959 and 1960 and competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics, where he was eliminated in the third bout. Between 1961 and 1964 he fought professionally in the bantamweight division, and had a record of 12 wins, 3 losses and one draw. His younger brother Gaetano was also an Olympic boxer.
Darryl Norwood is an Australian boxer. He competed in the men's flyweight event at the 1964 Summer Olympics. At the 1964 Summer Olympics, he defeated Luis Romo of Argentina, before losing to Fernando Atzori of Italy.
Sayed Mersal was an Egyptian boxer. He competed in the men's light heavyweight event at the 1964 Summer Olympics. At the 1964 Summer Olympics, he defeated Thomas Arimi of Ghana, before losing to Alexander Nikolov of Bulgaria.
