Maiah Ocando is a Venezuelan actress and Internet personality now living in Los Angeles, California. [2] She studied Fashion Design at the Brivil Institute [3] [4] and Filmmaking at the School of Cinema and Television in Caracas. [5] She is the host of the YouTube webshow Visto Bueno and writer of the book series of the same name. [6] She co-created and hosted the online series She Looks Like, [7] hosted "Holiday House" [8] and was featured as a co-host on the TV and online series Vive El Verano for NBC Universo. [9]
In 2014 Ocando signed a talent development deal with Disney-ABC for artist's services as a host for a future television show. [10]
In 2011, Ocando contributed as a stylist [11] for the world's first online sci-fi series filmed entirely using only mobile phones. [12] The project, titled Planeta N8, was one of three finalists in the P&M Awards 2012, [13] and was developed for the Nokia N8 advertising campaign. [14]
Ocando's first webshow was Umoda TV, [15] covering emerging fashion designers, makeup artists, photographers and supermodels for the region. The series was featured on Planetaurbe TV, [3] the first online TV network for youngsters in Latin America.
Before that, Ocando was a singer, who released a rock-pop album in 2005 titled A través de mis ojos [16] ("Through my eyes"). The album contained ten songs, for which Ocando was the vocalist. [17]
Ocando's Visto Bueno series was nominated for two Streamy Awards 2013 as Best International Series and Series of the Year; [18] in 2014 in Fashion, First Person and Entertainer of the Year categories; [19] and again in 2015 in Fashion. [20] She was the first Latina to be nominated three years in a row, [21] and hers was the only Spanish-speaking show nominated. [22]
Ocando's content was featured on a regular basis on AOL, [23] Huffpost video, and the Uvideos platform. [24] The Venezuelan website La Patilla [25] and the Venezuelan TV channel Globovision also featured her work. [26]
In 2014, Ocando landed a talent deal with ABC [27] [28] and moved to LA to continue working on her projects. [10] She also signed a deal the same year to take part in the digital show Gentlemen's Code alongside the rapper Pitbull, [29] accompanied by Shira Lazar, Brittany Furlan, Simone Sheperd and Kandee Johnson. In September 2015, Ocando signed an endorsement deal with Ford Motors U.S. [30] It was also announced that NBC Universo had teamed up with several Latino social media stars to launch the series Vive el Verano, which has Ocando amongst its stars. For the 2015 Streamy Awards, Ocando was chosen by VH1 to be their promotional image. [32] She also hosted Vanity Fair's official viewing party and Tweet Up for the Emmys in 2015. [33]
In February 2015, Ocando participated as principal speaker at a panel in the We Are Grow Summit pre-treat that took place at the YouTube Space in Los Angeles. [34]
In March 2015 Ocando was invited as a speaker at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas to discuss how Latino social stars are better at engaging with audiences, as well as making themselves more appealing to advertisers, networks and studios. [35] In June, she joined forces with Honda to create a song to tell a story on how multicultural millennials in America are shaped by their Hispanic roots and their everyday life. "Mis Dos Mundos" was written by Gabriel Torrelles, Daniel Norman and the L.A band Elah, performed by Ocando, and produced by Torrelles at the Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood, California. The song received more than 400,000 views on YouTube in the first week. [36]
On November 5, 2015, Ocando was invited to speak at the Women in Entertainment inaugural summit presented by Arclight in partnership with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and Women in Film, hosted by Gretchen McCourt, EVP of Programming for Pacific Theaters. On the Digital Game Changers panel that closed the summit, Ocando had an inspiring participation, encouraging women to "pick up a camera and start their own youtube channel". [37]
On June 17, 2016 Ocando spoke on the panel "Be a Maker, Not A Taker" at the Voto Latino's Power Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada. This professional development conference educates, engages and empowers American Latino millennials. The conference brings together dynamic leaders to network, explore resources and learn how to grow their careers from cross-industry experts. [38]
In July 2016, Ocando signed a content development deal with Univision. As part of the deal, Ocando and her partner, writer/producer, Gabriel Torrelles, created and starred a portfolio of new series on beauty, fitness, relationships, fashion and DIY projects aimed at multicultural millennial women in America, as well as serve as their digital correspondent, creating innovative social content and formats for platforms such as Snapchat and Facebook Live. [39] In September 2016, Ocando joined the team of Noticias Univision #EdicionDigital, [40] the first network newscast conceived, designed and produced for live simulcast on digital/social platforms plus broadcast television, and the only noon network newscast in the United States. In December 2016 Dear Maiah, a digital series starring Ocando, premiered. It was developed in collaboration with Fullscreen's AT&T Hello Lab, [42] with Ocando serving also as executive producer and creative consultant for the series. A digital spin on an advice column, Dear Maiah encouraged Ocando's fans to ask her questions relating about everyday life. The show received nearly 3.3 million total video views, and was a finalist for "Best Use Of Instagram" and "Mobile Campaign" at the 9th Annual Shorty Awards in March 2017. [43]
In the spring of 2017, Ocando and Torrelles created one of the first hour-long podcasts in Spanish language in the US. The podcast No sé, dime tú (I don't know, you tell me) comments on pop culture, current events and their lives as immigrants fighting for the American dream in Los Angeles. The podcast was named one of the "9 Latinx Podcasts You Should Be Listening To Right Now" by Latina Magazine. [44]
In 2019, Maiah Ocando worked on a campaign for the Volvo S60 in collaboration with Mindshare, Grey, and H Code. The campaign aimed to drive awareness and engagement, positioning the Volvo S60 as a luxury brand for Hispanic consumers by reflecting their feelings of personal achievement. The campaign was recognized with the Best Multicultural or Interest Group Campaign award in Auto Marketing from MediaPost. [45] The team produced four videos for the campaign.
In 2013 Ocando signed a deal with Editorial Cadena Capriles and launched a collection of six books based on the Visto Bueno series. The collection sold out in six weeks. The digital version of the series reached #1 on Amazon in US, Spain and Mexico, and stayed on the best seller list for several weeks. [6]
Ocando is in a longtime relationship with writer and producer Gabriel Torrelles, [46] whom she married in 2014 in Los Angeles, and who is the co-creator and producer of Visto Bueno. [27]

Pantelion Films was an American film production company that was created in 2010 and based in Santa Monica, California. The studio's goal was to bring wider theatrical distribution of movies aimed at Latino audiences. It was backed by TelevisaUnivision and Lionsgate Studios. Making theatrical relationships with movie exhibition chains including Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Theatres, Cinemex, and Cinemark, the studio raised the level of theatrically-released Latino films. Under that arrangement, Pantelion was active with its own office from 2010 to 2023. The studio's first film was 2011's From Prada to Nada, which Lionsgate and Grupo Televisa announced it had commissioned for a television series that did not materialize in 2012. The studio's office was discontinued in 2023 and its website redirected in 2024 effectively ending the studio's operational lifecycle though not the usage of its trademark for existing unreleased if not future productions.

"Bailando" (transl. "Dancing") is a song by Spanish singer-songwriter Enrique Iglesias for his tenth studio album Sex and Love (2014). Written by Iglesias with long-time collaborator Bueno, the first and Spanish version was released with Cuban artists Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona. Shortly afterward, the official version of the song was released by Universal Republic Records as the sixth single from the album. The song spent 41 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. "Bailando" was produced by Carlos Paucar.
Gabriel Torrelles is a writer, filmmaker, and Internet entrepreneur from Caracas, Venezuela. He was editor in chief of Urbe, a newspaper first published in 1996 with the aim of being an alternative newspaper for Venezuelan youth. This was the first youth newspaper of Venezuela. He also co-founded Planetaurbe.tv, and the magazine Urbe Bikini, along with the country's largest publisher, Cadena Capriles. He is currently living in Los Angeles, California while developing online storytelling and TV series.
CNCO was an American latin boy band based in Miami, Florida. The group consisted of Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón, Christopher Vélez and Zabdiel De Jesús; Joel Pimentel was a member until his departure in May 2021. They won a five-year recording contract with Sony Music Latin after becoming the winning competitors of the first season of La Banda. The band toured with Ricky Martin. Their debut and second singles "Tan Fácil" and "Quisiera", charted well soon after their debut. They released their first album, Primera Cita, on August 26, 2016, which included the hit "Reggaetón Lento (Bailemos)".
"Suave" (transl. "Smooth") is a song by Mexican singer Luis Miguel from his ninth studio album, Aries (1993). The song was composed by Kiko Cibrian and Orlando Castro with the former handling its production along with the artist. It is a dance number in which the singer describes a woman who bewitches him and becomes the woman of his dreams. The song received positive reactions from two music critics. It was acknowledged as an award-winning song at the 1995 Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) Latin Awards. Commercially, the song reached number nine on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart in the United States. Its music video was directed by Kiko Guerrero and filmed in Acapulco, Mexico, and features Miguel dancing in a beach with several women.
Ángela Aguilar Álvarez Alcalá is a Mexican and American singer. She was born in Los Angeles while her mother was accompanying her father, Pepe Aguilar, on tour. La desalmada is a Mexican telenovela that premiered on Las Estrellas on 5 July 2021. The series is produced by José Alberto Castro. It is an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela La dama de Troya created by Felipe Forero, Alejandro Torres and Guido Jácome. Livia Brito stars as titular character, alongside José Ron, Eduardo Santamarina, Marjorie de Sousa, and Marlene Favela.
The second season of Tu cara me suena premiered on Univision and Las Estrellas on March 27, 2022. The series is the American Spanish-language version of the Endemol format Your Face Sounds Familiar. This season features eight celebrities that compete in a song and dance number while impersonating iconic singers. Ana Brenda Contreras and Rafael Araneda returned as hosts. Angélica Vale and Charytín Goyco returned to the judging panel. Edén Muñoz and Víctor Manuelle joined as judges, replacing Jesús Navarro and Kany García. On May 8, 2022, Michael Stuart was declared the winner of the season.
