The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is a public research university located in Lagos,Nigeria,which was founded in 1962. UNILAG is one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in Africa in major education publications. The university presently has three campuses in the mainland of Lagos. Whereas two of its campuses are located at Yaba,it's college of medicine is located at Idi-Araba,Surulere. Its main campus is largely surrounded by the Lagos Lagoon and has 802 acres of land. As at 2024,the University of Lagos admits around 8,500 undergraduate students annually and enrolls over 57,000 students.
Yobe is a state located in northeastern Nigeria. A mainly agricultural state,it was created on 27 August 1991. Yobe State was carved out of Borno State. Lagos State University,popularly known as LASU,is a Lagos state government-owned university established in 1983. Its main campus is situated at Ojo,with sub-campuses at Ikeja and Epe. The university was set up "for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence". The university caters to over 35,000 students. The university was established during the administration of Late Lateef Kayode Jakande. The university offers diploma,degree and post graduate programmes,including an MBA programme. LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020. On 23 June 2021,LASU emerged as the best young university in Nigeria having been below the age of 50 years to be added. Times Higher Education ranked the Lagos State University as the second best university in Nigeria on 2 September 2020,and was the only state university included in the rankings for 2022. The university has attracted international funding,including for the establishment of a World Bank Group Africa Centre for Excellence on Science,Technology,Engineering,and Mathematics.
The Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta is one of the higher institutions of learning owned and run by the Federal government of Nigeria.
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) is a Federal higher institution located in Maiduguri,the capital city of Borno State in Northeast Nigeria. The university was created by the federal government of Nigeria in 1975,with the intention of its becoming one of the country's principal higher-education institutions. It enrolls about 25,000 students in its combined programs,which include a college of medicine and faculties of agriculture,arts,environmental science,Allied health science,Basic medical science,dentistry,education,engineering,law,management science,pharmacy,science,social science,and veterinary medicine. With the encouragement of the federal government,the university has recently been increasing its research efforts,particularly in the fields of agriculture,medicine and conflict resolution,and expanding the university press. The university is the major higher institution of learning in the north-eastern part of the country.
University of Ilorin (UNILORIN),is a federal government-owned public research university in Ilorin,Kwara State,Nigeria. The university's main campus sits on an expansive area of land,about 15,000 hectares in the ancient city of Ilorin;making it the largest university in Nigeria and one of the largest in Africa by landmass. The university comprises 16 faculties and over 100 academic departments offering 103 programmes. It was established by a decree of the Federal Military Government of Nigeria in August,1975. The University of Ilorin has the highest enrollment of foreign students in Nigeria. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan,which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower,which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country,the institution has one of the largest land areas,covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023,it was announced by the JAMB Head,Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University,for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME),making it for the 10th consecutive year.
Rosina Mamokgethi Phakeng is a South African professor of mathematics education who in 2018 became a vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT). She has been the vice principal of research and innovation,at the University of South Africa and acting executive dean of the College of Science,Engineering and Technology at UNISA. In 2018 she was an invited speaker at the International Congresses of Mathematicians. In February 2023 it was announced that she would leave her position as vice-chancellor of UCT and take early retirement. She was succeeded by Professor Daya Reddy on 13 March 2023.

Florence Banku Obi is a Nigerian academic,author and a professor of education with specialization in psychology and special needs education. She is the 11th substantive vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar and the first female vice-chancellor since the inception of the institution. After her appointment as the new VC,Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who chairs the Senate Adhoc Committee on Constitution Review,described Prof. Obi as "an astute educational icon". She was previously the deputy vice-chancellor,academics and commissioner for women affairs in Cross River State. She was a candidate in the 2015 VC election but was not elected until 2020,when she became the first woman to be elected. In 2007,she served as the social development and member of the executive council,Cross River State.
Nnenna Nnannaya Oti is a Nigerian professor and the first female substantive Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Owerri. Oti defeated Ikechukwu Dozie on 13 April 2021 and has resumed office as the 8th Vice-Chancellor of the institution on 19 June 2021.
Nishtha Jaswal is an academician and scholar in Law. In 2024,she retired as the Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh National Law University,Shimla. She was the second Vice-Chancellor of HPNLU,Shimla and the third woman Vice Chancellor at a National Law University. She served as the Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh National Law University,Shimla from November 2018 till January 2024.
