Malekshahi tribe is a Kurdish tribe found in Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. The name in Persian language is from an old name Melkishi, a Kurdish tribe living mainly in western Iran and in parts of Iraq. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] At the 2010 census, the tribe's population was 750,000- 1,500,000. [11]

The Malekshahi is one of the largest tribes in Iran and Iraq. [12] [13] [14] [15] Melikshahi Kurdish language and dialect is malekshahi. [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] [22] [23] [24] There is a Georgian counterpart to this tribe, namely the Melikishvili.

The Malekshah mainly live in the provinces of Ilam, Kurdistan Province, Mazandaran Province and North Khorasan Province, Lorestan Province, Kermanshah, and in southern Iraq, especially around the cities of Baghdad, Khanaqin, Basra, Wasit Governorate, Diyala Governorate, Amarah, and Kut. Kabir Kouh mountain in Iran

Kabir Kuh is one of the long ranges of the Zagros Mountains near the border of Lurestan and Ilam Provinces in Ilam province, Iran. Covering an area of 9,500 km2 (3,700 sq mi), Kabir Kuh stretches 175 km (109 mi) in length and 48–80 km (30–50 mi) in width along the Zagros Mountains in the Northwest-Southeast direction. It begins about 20 km (12 mi) south of Ilam and stretches down to the vicinity of Andimeshk in Khuzestan. Made mainly by Cretaceous sedimentary rocks, the Kabir Kuh range consists of a large number of mountains, including Shah Ahmad, Tabriz, Kaleh-bad, Filman, Damaghey-e Anar, Rivasan, Puneh, Sabzkhani, Zarrin, Golgol that are covered by snow and ice all year round. Its highest peak is Kan Seifi with 3,050 m (10,010 ft) elevation, 50 km (31 mi) south of Ilam. Kabir Kuh runs along the Seymareh river, which becomes Karkheh when joins the Kashkan river before reaching the border of Ilam province and Khuzestan province. Kabir Kuh divides the mountainous region in western Iran into two regions generally referred as Piškuh and Poštkuh, the latter virtually coinciding with Ilam.

Ilam Province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It is located in the western part of the country, sharing 425 km (264 mi) of border with Iraq, and also bordering on the provinces of Kermanshah, Lorestan, and Khuzestan. The largest city and also the provincial capital is the city of Ilam with a population 194,030. As of 2016 census, the population of the province was 580,158 people and is the least populated province in Iran. Majority of the population, about 80%, speak dialects of Kurdish, 10% speak Luri and 6% Laki.

Malekshahi County is a county in Ilam Province in Iran. The Malekshahi tribe is the biggest Kurdish tribe in Ilam. The capital of the county is Arakvaz. It was separated from Mehran County in 2008. At the 2006 census, the county's population was 31,393, in 5,722 families. The county is subdivided into two districts: the Central District and Gachi District. The county has three cities: Arakvaz, Mehr and Delgosha.
