The Mall at University Town Center is a shopping mall located in Sarasota County, Florida, United States, just south of the Manatee County line near the planned community of Lakewood Ranch. It opened on October 16, 2014 [3] and is anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Apple and Dillard's.
The Mall at University Town Center began in 2002 when Benderson Corporation purchased the land and announced their intention to build the land into a regional mall. In 2007, Nordstrom signed a letter of intent to open at the mall. Neiman Marcus and Macy's signed letters of intent soon after, with a planned groundbreaking in 2008 and a planned opening in 2010. The Taubman Corp. joined the project in May 2008, a 50/50 split with Benderson. In summer of 2009, the project was placed on hold due to the Great Recession, and the three planned anchor stores pulled out. [4]
On October 15, 2012, a revamped Mall at University Town Center was unveiled. Macy's rejoined the project, this time joined by Dillard's and Saks Fifth Avenue. [5] Groundbreaking would occur on October 15, 2012. [6] The Mall would officially open on October 16, 2014. At the time of its opening it was the first regional shopping center built in Sarasota in 35 years and was one of two enclosed malls that opened in the United States during 2014. [7]
During the COVID-19 pandemic the mall would close starting on March 19, 2020 and ended up reopening on May 6. [8] [9]
The District East and The District West are two shopping centers located just east and west of the Mall at UTC. The District West includes retailers such as Super Target, Old Navy, Best Buy, Ulta Beauty, Petco, and Dick's Sporting Goods. The District East is slated to include shopping, hotels, a movie theater and housing. Bordering Nathan Benderson Park, home of the 2017 World Rowing Championships. [10] The District East is currently under development. [11]
On June 29, 2023, it was announced that Christmas Tree Shops would be closing as part of a plan to close all 82 stores nationwide. The store closed on August 12, 2023. [12]
Stamford Town Center is an urban shopping mall located in Downtown Stamford, Connecticut. The 761,000-square-foot (70,700 m2) mall is the eighth largest in Connecticut, with space for about 130 stores and restaurants. The mall's two anchors are a 250,000-square-foot (23,000 m2) Macy's and a Barnes and Noble. An 80,000-square-foot (7,400 m2) Todd English Food Hall is scheduled to open by 2024.

Short Pump Town Center is an open-air shopping mall located in the Short Pump census-designated place (CDP) of unincorporated Henrico County, Virginia on West Broad Street, approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) west of I-64, exit 178A/B. Dadeland Mall is a large enclosed shopping mall located in Kendall, Florida, in the Dadeland district. The mall, originally developed by the Joseph Meyerhoff Company of Baltimore, opened October 1, 1962 as a 535,000-square-foot (49,700 m2), open-air complex of 60 stores and services. West Oaks Mall is a regional shopping mall located in the Alief area of the west side of Houston, Texas, USA, that opened in 1984. One Bellevue Place is a regional shopping, dining, and entertainment complex in southwestern Nashville, Tennessee, specifically in the Bellevue neighborhood. Opened in 1990 as an enclosed regional shopping mall named Bellevue Center, it had capacity for over 90 stores on two floors totaling 848,545 square feet (78,832.4 m2). The mall itself opened in 1990, began showing signs of decline during the early 2000s recession, and closed in 2008. Two of its three anchor tenants continued to operate beyond the mall's closure, but both would eventually vacate the property as well. The entire structure, including the three adjacent anchor buildings and an outparcel, was demolished in 2015. A new mixed-use complex opened on the site in 2017.

DeSoto Square Mall was an enclosed shopping mall serving Bradenton, Florida, United States. It was built in 1973 and permanently closed on April 30, 2021. One lone anchor store, Hudson's Furniture, remains open.
