Gujarat is a state along the western coast of India. Its coastline of about 1,600 km (990 mi) is the longest in the country,most of which lies on the Kathiawar peninsula. Gujarat is the fifth-largest Indian state by area,covering some 196,024 km2 (75,685 sq mi);and the ninth-most populous state,with a population of 60.4 million in 2011. Garba is a form of Gujarati dance which originates from the state of Gujarat,India. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term Garbha. Many traditional garbas are performed around a centrally lit lamp or a picture or statue of the Hindu goddess Durga. Traditionally,it is performed during the nine-day Hindu festival Navaratri. Either the lamp or an image of the Goddess,Durga is placed in the middle of concentric rings as an object of veneration.

It was founded by a British administrator,Alexander Kinloch Forbes,in 1848 with the Gujarati author Dalpatram. The name was changed on the occasion of the centenary of the institution.
Gujarati Sahitya Parishad is a literary organisation for the promotion of Gujarati literature located in Ahmedabad,Gujarat,India. It was founded by Ranjitram Mehta with the aim of creating literature appealing to all classes of society and cultivating a literary sense among the people. Many prominent people including Mahatma Gandhi and Kanaiyalal Munshi have presided over the organisation. Its headquarters,located on Ashram Road,is known as Govardhan Bhavan. Indumati Chimanlal Sheth was an Indian independence activist,politician,social worker and educationist from Gujarat. Born in Ahmedabad and influenced by Mahatma Gandhi,she participated in the independence movement and later served as a deputy education minister of the Bombay State and education minister of Gujarat. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1970 for her social work.

Khalil Ismail Makrani,popularly known by his pen-name,Khalil Dhantejvi was a poet and novelist from Gujarat,India. He wrote poems in Gujarati and Urdu. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2022 by the government of India.
Pushpa Janardanrai Mehta,also known as Pushpaben Mehta,was an Indian social worker and politician from Gujarat. She founded and headed several women and child welfare organisations in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra region. She served as the member of legislative assemblies of Saurashtra,Bombay and Gujarat states consecutively from 1952 to 1962. She served as the member of Rajya Sabha from 1966 to 1972. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956.
