As an amateur he won silver medals in the super-heavyweight division at the 1982 World Championships and 1984 Summer Olympics.

In 2008, the Armenia team placed first at the European Championship. In the 2008 Summer Olympics Armenia won three bronze medals. Tigran Gevorg Martirosyan is Armenia's only world champion with his successful appearance in 2010.
Mihály Deák-Bárdos is a Hungarian amateur Greco-Roman wrestler, who played for the men's super heavyweight category. He is a four-time Olympian, and a six-time medalist at the European Championships. Deák-Bárdos had also won a total of five silver medals at the World Championships, losing out to numerous top-level wrestlers including Alexander Karelin, Rulon Gardner, Khasan Baroyev, and Mijaín López, all of whom were Olympic champions in the same division.
Oleksandr Iosypovych Khotsianivskyi is a Ukrainian freestyle wrestler, who competes in the men's super heavyweight category. He is two-time bronze European medalist and silver Universiade medalist. Khotsianivskyi represented Ukraine at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he competed in the men's 120 kg category. He lost the qualifying round match to Turkey's Taha Akgül, who was able to score three points in two straight periods, leaving Khotsianivskyi without a single point.
