Veppampattu Railway station is a suburb of Chennai and rapid growing village under the Village Panchayats in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu between Chennai and Arakkonam on the Chennai - Arakkonam railway line. It is fast-growing with a number of schools and colleges. Electric trains and NH 205 road provide transportation to Chennai. Veppampatu can be approached by both train and bus. DakshinaChitra is a living-history museum in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, dedicated to South Indian heritage and culture. It is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) to the south of Chennai. Opened to the public on 14 December 1996, the museum was founded and is being managed by the Madras Craft Foundation (MCF). The MCF was established in 1984. Deborah Thiagarajan, an Indian art historian of American origin, governs the museum.

Central University of Tamil Nadu abbreviated CUTN was established by an Act of Parliament. The University was inaugurated on 30 September 2009 by Kapil Sibal who laid the foundation stone. The 2013 Anti–Sri Lanka protests are a series of student protests and agitations initiated by the Students Federation for Freedom of Tamil Eelam in Tamil Nadu, India, against war crimes committed against Sri Lankan Tamil people by Sri Lankan army during the Eelam War IV. The protesters demanded that the Government of India vote in support of a United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution censuring the Government of Sri Lanka for war crimes. Some radical groups even demanded the prosecution of the President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapakse for his role in the alleged genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils. Apart from college students, doctors, film personalities and employees of IT companies also participated in the protests.
