Marco Abate (born 29 August 1962) is an Italian mathematician.
He was born in Milan,Italy on 29 August 1962.
He completed his PhD in 1988 at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. His dissertation thesis was titled Iteration Theory of Holomorphic Maps on Taut Manifolds. His doctoral advisor was Edoardo Vesentini. [1]
He is currently a professor of mathematics at the University of Pisa. [2]
In 1989,he received the Bartolozzi Prize from the Italian Mathematical Union.

Differential geometry is a mathematical discipline that studies the geometry of smooth shapes and smooth spaces, otherwise known as smooth manifolds. It uses the techniques of differential calculus, integral calculus, linear algebra and multilinear algebra. The field has its origins in the study of spherical geometry as far back as antiquity. It also relates to astronomy, the geodesy of the Earth, and later the study of hyperbolic geometry by Lobachevsky. The simplest examples of smooth spaces are the plane and space curves and surfaces in the three-dimensional Euclidean space, and the study of these shapes formed the basis for development of modern differential geometry during the 18th and 19th centuries.
In mathematics, particularly differential geometry,a Finsler manifold is a differentiable manifold M where a (possibly asymmetric) Minkowski normF(x,−) is provided on each tangent space TxM,that enables one to define the length of any smooth curve γ :[a,b] →M as
Eugenio Calabi was an Italian-born American mathematician and the Thomas A. Scott Professor of Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in differential geometry, partial differential equations and their applications.
In mathematics,Hilbert's fourth problem in the 1900 list of Hilbert's problems is a foundational question in geometry. In one statement derived from the original,it was to find —up to an isomorphism —all geometries that have an axiomatic system of the classical geometry, with those axioms of congruence that involve the concept of the angle dropped, and `triangle inequality',regarded as an axiom, added.
Ion Barbu was a Romanian mathematician and poet. His name is associated with the Mathematics Subject Classification number 51C05,which is a major posthumous recognition reserved only to pioneers of investigations in an area of mathematical inquiry.
Marco D'Alessandro is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Serie B club Pisa,on loan from Monza.
The Bartolozzi Prize is awarded by the Italian Mathematical Union every two years. Until 2017 it was awarded to an Italian mathematician below the age of 34. Starting with the 2019 edition, the prize is now reserved for female Italian mathematicians below the age of 40. The prize is entitled in the memory of the Italian mathematician Giuseppe Bartolozzi and is worth €3,000.
Robert Leamon Bryant is an American mathematician. He works at Duke University and specializes in differential geometry.
Luigi Ambrosio is a professor at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa,Italy. His main fields of research are the calculus of variations and geometric measure theory.
Herbert Busemann was a German-American mathematician specializing in convex and differential geometry. He is the author of Busemann's theorem in Euclidean geometry and geometric tomography. He was a member of the Royal Danish Academy and a winner of the Lobachevsky Medal (1985),the first American mathematician to receive it. He was also a Fulbright scholar in New Zealand in 1952.
Detlef Laugwitz (1932–2000) was a German mathematician and historian, who worked in differential geometry, history of mathematics, functional analysis, and non-standard analysis.
Paul Finsler was a German and Swiss mathematician.
Giovanni Battista Rizza, officially known as Giambattista Rizza, was an Italian mathematician, working in the fields of complex analysis of several variables and in differential geometry:he is known for his contribution to hypercomplex analysis, notably for extending Cauchy's integral theorem and Cauchy's integral formula to complex functions of a hypercomplex variable, the theory of pluriharmonic functions and for the introduction of the now called Rizza manifolds.
In differential geometry a Rizza manifold, named after Giovanni Battista Rizza,is an almost complex manifold also supporting a Finsler structure:this kind of manifold is also referred as almost Hermitian Finsler manifold.
Alessio Figalli is an Italian mathematician working primarily on calculus of variations and partial differential equations.
Finsler's lemma is a mathematical result named after Paul Finsler. It states equivalent ways to express the positive definiteness of a quadratic form Q constrained by a linear form L. Since it is equivalent to another lemmas used in optimization and control theory, such as Yakubovich's S-lemma,Finsler's lemma has been given many proofs and has been widely used, particularly in results related to robust optimization and linear matrix inequalities.
Evan Tom Davies was a Welsh mathematician. He studied applications of the Lie derivative as it relates to Riemannian geometry as well as absolute differential calculus, and published a large number of papers relating to the subjects.
Ludwig Berwald was a German mathematician best known for his contributions to differential geometry, especially Finsler geometry. He taught in Munich and Prague for 32 years, publishing 54 papers, before being deported by the SS to the ŁódźGhetto, where he and his wife Hedwig died within a year.
Dmitri Yurievich Burago is a leading Russian - American mathematician, specializing in differential,Riemannian,Finsler geometry, geometric analysis, dynamical systems and applications to mathematical physics.
Peter Louis Antonelli was an American mathematician known for his work on mathematical biology,Finsler geometry, and their connections.
