Marcus Baur (born 10 May 1971) is a German former yacht racer who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics and in the 2004 Summer Olympics [1] and a trained architectural engineer.
After his active sports career, he developed and managed various companies and developed products as an executive (among others Sailtracks, SAP Sailing Analytics, Sailing Team Germany, Sail Insight, Goalscape Management Software) and acted as an executive producer of the Olympic Sailing World Cup. [2] He is also a member of the Olympic Channel Commission of the International Olympic Committee. [3]
During the Covid Pandemic, Baur revived a business he originally started in 2009. Based on a US patent granted to Baur in 2015, Software GmbH designs and develops an innovative Visual Goal Management solution called Goalscape. [4] The concept is based on a holistic and visual approach to setting goals. It is related to the theory of Centers, pioneered by Architect Christopher Alexander in his book The Nature of Order. [5]
Baur proposed to plot the tree structure of a work breakdown into a radial graph (also called a sunburst chart). He originally developed the concept during his first Olympic sailing campaign. Today, Goalscape is used in a wide variety of contexts. [6]
