Marcy Rosen is an American cellist [1] [2] who is a member of the Mendelssohn Quartet, [3] [4] [5] Los Angeles Times music critic Herbert Glass has called her "one of the intimate art's abiding treasures.".

Early life and education

Rosen was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Her music teachers included Gordon Epperson, Orlando Cole, Marcus Adeney, Felix Galimir, Karen Tuttle and Sandor Vegh. Rosen is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music.

Career

Rosen made her concerto debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age eighteen. She was a member of the Cantelina Chamber Players in 1982. [6] She was a member of the Mendelssohn Quartet in 1986 when they made their recording debut with String Quartet No. 11 (Dvořák), Op. 61. [7]

Rosen has since appeared with the Dallas Symphony, the Phoenix Symphony, the Caramoor Summer Music Festival Orchestra, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in Carnegie Hall, the Jupiter Symphony and Concord Chamber Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall, and the Tokyo Symphony at Bunkamura in Tokyo.

Rosen has served on the faculties of the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Eastman School of Music, the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Delaware. She has acted as the artistic co-director of the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival. [8]

As of 2014, Rosen was assistant professor of Cello at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and on the Faculty at the Mannes College of Music in New York City, as well as continuing to perform and record professionally. [9] [10]

Steven Honigberg is an American cellist. The son of pianist Carol Honigberg, Steven is a member of the National Symphony Orchestra and the Potomac String Quartet, and solos frequently; he is also known as a well-reviewed performer from David Ott's premier of Concerto for Two Cellos. From 1994-2002, Honigberg served as chamber music series director at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Forty concerts and 4 CDs entitled "Darkness and Light," a CD of Ernst Toch's (1887–1964) cello compositions and a CD of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's (1897–1957) chamber music were produced under his artistry and leadership.

James Zuill Bailey, better known as Zuill Bailey is a celebrated, Grammy Award-winning American cello soloist, chamber musician, and artistic director. A graduate of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and the Juilliard School, he has appeared in recital and with major orchestras internationally. He is a professor of cello and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Texas at El Paso. Bailey’s extensive recording catalogue are released on TELARC, Avie, Steinway and Sons, Octave, Delos, Albany, Sono Luminus, Naxos, Azica, Concord, EuroArts, ASV, Oxingale and Zenph Studios.

The Pacifica Quartet is a professional string quartet based in Bloomington, Indiana. Its members are: Simin Ganatra, first violin; Austin Hartman, second violin; Mark Holloway, viola; and Brandon Vamos, cello. Formed in 1994 by Ganatra and Vamos with violinist Sibbi Bernhardsson and violist Kathryn Lockwood, the group won prizes in competitions such as the 1996 Coleman Chamber Music Competition, the 1997 Concert Artists Guild Competition, and the 1998 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition. In 2001, violist Masumi Per Rostad replaced Lockwood. Kenneth Slowik is an American cellist, viol player, and conductor. He studied at the University of Chicago, the Chicago Musical College, the Peabody Conservatory, the Salzburg Mozarteum and, as a Fulbright Scholar, the Vienna Hochschule für Musik, guided by Howard Mayer Brown, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Antonio Janigro, Edward Lowinsky, and Frederik Prausnitz.

Joseph Swensen is a conductor, violinist, and composer. He is winner of awards, including the Leventritt Foundation Sponsorship Award and the Avery Fisher Career Award. In 2000, Swensen was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of St Andrews, Scotland. In 2014, he gave a TedX talk with the title “Habitats for Music and the Sound of Math” about music education and the developing brain, at the New York Institute of Technology.
