Norwegian is a North Germanic language spoken mainly in Norway,where it is an official language. Along with Swedish and Danish,Norwegian forms a dialect continuum of more or less mutually intelligible local and regional varieties;some Norwegian and Swedish dialects,in particular,are very close. These Scandinavian languages,together with Faroese and Icelandic as well as some extinct languages,constitute the North Germanic languages. Faroese and Icelandic are not mutually intelligible with Norwegian in their spoken form because continental Scandinavian has diverged from them. While the two Germanic languages with the greatest numbers of speakers,English and German,have close similarities with Norwegian,neither is mutually intelligible with it. Norwegian is a descendant of Old Norse,the common language of the Germanic peoples living in Scandinavia during the Viking Age.
The University of Bergen is a public research university located in Bergen,Norway. As of 2021,the university has over 4,000 employees and 19,000 students. It was established by an act of parliament in 1946 based on several older scientific institutions dating back to 1825,and is Norway's second-oldest university. It is considered one of Norway's four "established universities" and has faculties and programmes in all the fields of a classical university including fields that are traditionally reserved by law for established universities,including medicine and law. It is also one of Norway's leading universities in many natural sciences,including marine research and climate research. It is consistently ranked in the top one percentage among the world's universities,usually among the best 200 universities and among the best 10 or 50 universities worldwide in some fields such as earth and marine sciences. It is part of the Coimbra Group and of the U5 group of Norway's oldest and highest ranked universities.
The University of Oslo is a public research university located in Oslo,Norway. It is the oldest university in Norway. Originally named the Royal Frederick University,the university was established in 1811 as the de facto Norwegian continuation of Denmark-Norway's common university,the University of Copenhagen,with which it shares many traditions. It was named for King Frederick VI of Denmark and Norway,and received its current name in 1939. The university was commonly nicknamed "The Royal Frederick's" before the name change,and informally also referred to simply as Universitetet.
Bergen,historically Bjørgvin,is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. As of 2021,its population is roughly 285,900. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway after national capital Oslo. The municipality covers 465 square kilometres (180 sq mi) and is on the peninsula of Bergenshalvøyen. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are on Byfjorden,'the city fjord',and the city is surrounded by mountains;Bergen is known as the "city of seven mountains". Many of the extra-municipal suburbs are on islands. Bergen is the administrative centre of Vestland county. The city consists of eight boroughs:Arna,Bergenhus,Fana,Fyllingsdalen,Laksevåg,Ytrebygda,Årstad,and Åsane.
Norwegian literature is literature composed in Norway or by Norwegian people. The history of Norwegian literature starts with the pagan Eddaic poems and skaldic verse of the 9th and 10th centuries with poets such as Bragi Boddason and Eyvindr Skáldaspillir. The arrival of Christianity around the year 1000 brought Norway into contact with European medieval learning,hagiography and history writing. Merged with native oral tradition and Icelandic influence,this was to flower into an active period of literature production in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Major works of that period include Historia Norwegie,Thidreks saga and Konungs skuggsjá.
The Progress Party,commonly abbreviated as FrP,is a right-wing political party in Norway. The FrP has traditionally self-identified as classical-liberal and as a libertarian party but is generally positioned to the right of the Conservative Party,and is considered the most right-wing party to be represented in parliament. It is often described as right-wing populist,which has been disputed in public discourse,and sometimes described by academics as far-right. By 2020,the party attained a growing national conservative faction. After the 2017 parliamentary election,it was Norway's third largest political party,with 26 representatives in the Storting. It was a partner in the government coalition led by the Conservative Party from 2013 to 2020.
Nynorsk is one of the two official written standards of the Norwegian language,the other being Bokmål. From 12 May 1885,it became the state-sanctioned version of Ivar Aasen's standard Norwegian language parallel to the Dano-Norwegian written language (Riksmål). Nynorsk became the name in 1929,and it is after a series of reforms still a variation which is closer to Landsmål,whereas Bokmål is closer to Riksmål and Danish.
Kristiansand Airport is an international airport serving Kristiansand Municipality in Agder county,Norway. The airport is located in the district of Tveit in the Oddernes borough,about 16 kilometers (9.9 mi) by road and 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) by air from the center of town of Kristiansand. Operated by the state-owned Avinor,it is the sole airport in Southern Norway with scheduled flights. It has a 2,035-meter (6,677 ft) runway aligned 03/21 and served 1,061,130 passengers in 2018. Scheduled flights are provided by Scandinavian Airlines,Norwegian Air Shuttle,Widerøe,KLM Cityhopper and Wizz Air. The Royal Norwegian Air Force has a training center at the airport.
The Grieg Academy is a disputed historical term used to refer to the higher education music programs in Bergen,Norway,as well as various collaborations across music institutions in Bergen. However,since 2016,due to mergers between several Norwegian institutions,the structure of Grieg Academy has changed and its remaining components are expected to be a doctoral research school and various research groups. Specifically,this is due to a merger between the University of Bergen’s Faculty of Humanities with the Bergen Academy of Art and Design,as well as a nearly simultaneous merger between Bergen University College and two other university colleges in western Norway:Stord/Haugesund University College and Sogn og Fjordane University College to become,in January 2017,Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) The music programs across HVL briefly became the largest music department in western Norway in terms of the number of full time teachers,but this has rapidly changed due to an unofficial policy of not replacing retiring teachers.
Skien Airport,Geiteryggen is a regional airport located at Geiteryggen,5.5 kilometers (3.4 mi) southwest of the city center of Skien,Norway. Owned by Skien Municipality,it was last served by Widerøe with daily flights to Bergen. The runway is 1,416-by-30-meter and numbered 01–19. The airport had 33,080 passengers in 2014 and has Grenland and the southern part of Telemark as its catchment area.

After taking nominations from many scientists in various disciplines,authors,and other notable people,the Royal Institution compiled a shortlist of books for consideration. The University of South-Eastern Norway,commonly known as USN,is a Norwegian state university. It has campuses in Bøin Telemark,Porsgrunn,Notodden,Rauland,Drammen,Hønefoss,Kongsberg and Horten. USN is a continuation of the three former university colleges,Telemark University College,Buskerud University College and Vestfold University College,which merged between 2014 and 2016 to form the University College of South-Eastern Norway. The institution was granted the status of a full university by the King-in-Council on 4 May 2018.
Pinar Heggernes is a Turkish-born Norwegian computer scientist known for her research on graph algorithms,sparse matrix computations,and parameterized complexity. She is the deputy rector of the University of Bergen,elected together with rector Margareth Hagen for the period 2021 - 2025. Until August 2021,she was the head of the Department of Informatics at the University of Bergen. She is also a member of the board of directors of the Research Council of Norway,appointed for the period 2019–2022.

It was designed to explore the potential of larps as a research methodology and as research dissemination,and was specifically intended to investigate ethical questions that arise when encountering new surveillance technologies.
Charalampos (Haris) Tzoulis is a Professor of Neurology and Neurogenetics. He is a trained neurologist and co-director of the Neuro-SysMed Center for Clinical Trials Research in neurological diseases,at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital,funded amongst others by the Norwegian Research Council. In 2022,he established the K.G. Jebsen Center for Translational Research in Parkinson's Disease at the University of Bergen,with funding from the K.G. Jebsen Foundation,focusing on better diagnostics and identification of disease subtypes in order to offer personalized treatments.
