Maria Aleksandra Veitola (born 26 February 1973 [2] ) is a Finnish journalist, screenwriter, talk show host and TV and radio host. She is one of the most prominent figures in Finnish entertainment and has appeared in multiple TV shows on commercial channels MTV3 and Nelonen.

Veitola was born in the small municipality of Eno in Finnish province North Karelia but spent her youth in Imatra in South Karelia. After moving to Helsinki in early 1990s she began her career in 1994 in Radio City as a radio host and continued in Radio Helsinki in 2000. [3] Her first TV program was her own talk show Maria! on Nelonen from 2008 to 2011. [4] From 2016 to 2018 she hosted a talkshow called Enbuske, Veitola & Salminen along with Tuomas Enbuske and Roope Salminen.

She became the director of Radio Helsinki in 2013, a position which she retained until 2016. Since 2015 she has had a popular TV show Yökylässä Maria Veitola ("A sleepover with Maria Veitola") where she spends two days and one night with prominent figures in Finland as a houseguest. Her famous sleepover hosts include Juha Sipilä, Sanna Marin, Antti Rinne, Päivi Räsänen, Vappu Pimiä and Sofi Oksanen, among others. Since March 2020 Veitola has also been one of the panelists in Masked Singer Suomi.

Veitola is an outspoken feminist. [5] She has published two books, Veitola in 2018 and Toisinpäin in 2019.

In recent years he has received recognition as a writer of young adult dramas and as a documentary film maker. Vartia has published four novels. Vartia founded Taaborin kesäteatteri/ Taabori Summer Theater in Nurmijärvi 2009 and started to run the movie theatre Kino Juha 2019.

Vain elämää is the Finnish version of The Best Singers series broadcast on Finnish Nelonen commercial television channel fashioned on the successful Dutch series De beste zangers van Nederland. Each day, one artist would be chosen, and the remaining artists would perform covers of her or his songs and would be assessed by the original artist. The last day would be dedicated to duets of the most popular performances.

Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Aina mun pitää" written and performed by the band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2015 in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. 18 entries were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of three semi-finals and a final, taking place in February 2015. Six entries competed in each semi-final and the top three from each semi-final, as selected solely by a public vote, advanced to the final. Nine entries competed in the final on 28 February where the combination of votes from eight jury groups representing different factions of Finnish society and votes from the public selected "Aina mun pitää" performed by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät as the winner.
