Marianne Bredal (born 10 May 1985) is a Danish politician. [3] She is the mayor of the Struer Municipality in Mid Jutland Region since 1 February 2024 following the resignation of Mads Jakobsen,elected for Venstre. [4] [5]
Marianne has been a member of Struer City Council for the left since 2013 and for several years was also a parliamentary candidate for the party. In 2015 Marianne Bredal,had decided not to stand again for the Folketing,where she ran for the Liberal party,Venstre. She also ran in the 2007 Danish general election and 2011 Danish general election,where she was also not elected as a member. [6] She said "I decided a long time ago that if it didn't work out this time,it was over. Now I've given it two tries,and I think new forces are needed in the Holstebro circle." [6]
She was then temporary Member of Parliament from October 2017 to March 2018 in Thomas Danielsen's absence. She took over as acting mayor in 2023,when Mads Jakobsen became ill and took over the post of mayor when he resigned from the city council. [4] [5] She thus becomes the first female mayor in Struer. She now holds the post of mayor for the next two years. [2]
Struer Municipality is a municipality in Mid Jutland Region on the Jutland Peninsula in west Denmark. The municipality includes the island of Venø. It covers an area of 245.90 square kilometres (94.94 sq mi) and has a total population of 20,594. Its mayor is Marianne Bredal. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Struer.

Mads Jakobsen,who was mayor from 2014 to 2017,ran to return as mayor after losing the position as a result of the 2017 election.
Following the 2017 election,Ole Vive from Venstre won the mayor's position after the Social Democrats had held it in the 7 years prior to that election.
Ever since 2003,the Social Democrats had held the mayor's position in Bornholm Regional Municipality.
