Marianne J. Kitany is the current member of parliament for Aldai Constituency in Nandi County and she is also the former Chief of Staff to the 11th Deputy President of Kenya who is the current President of the Republic of Kenya His Excellency Hon. William Ruto. [1]

Career

Before joining the Deputy President's Office, Kitany worked as the Information and Communications Technology Manager at the Kenya Railways Corporation. Prior to this, she also worked in a similar position at the Energy Regulatory Commission and Hamilton Harrison & Mathews Advocates as well as being a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology at the Strathmore University. Early Life And Education

Marianne joined Alliance Girls High School in the year 1990 where she studied until 1993 when she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. She then proceeded to pursue Bachelor of Education Arts (BEd) at Kenyatta University between 1996 and 1998. Her love for studies pushed her to take another course at Nairobi University where she studies Master of Science in information technology (MSc. IT) between 1999 and 2001. She took a break from books to chase other dreams but would later join Cornell University to take a Certificate in Leadership and Change Management. At the same time, between 2008 and 2010 she was still studying for her Global Executive MBA at the United States International University Africa (USIU) & Columbia Universities. [2]

Personal life

She was married to Franklin Linturi until 2019 when their marriage became rocky leading to divorce after four years of marriage . [3] [4] [5] [6] Before her marriage to the former Meru Senator Hon.Mithika Linturi, Kitany was previously married to a former colleague whom she met in her youth and the two were blessed with one child and their marriage lasted for 13 years. Despite her failed marriages she is still hopeful that she can find love again. [7]

Political career

During the 2022 elections, she vied for election to the 13th Parliament of Kenya as a member of parliament for Aldai Constituency on an UDA ticket; and was elected. [2] [8] [9] Marianne took over the seat with a total number of 42,015 votes against her predecessor Hon. Cornelly Serem who got 13,309 votes and had held the position from 2013 to 2022. She thus became the second female member of parliament ( MP ) to represent her Aldai constituents in the Kenyan National Assembly. [10] The first female MP was the former Minister for Education and Agriculture Dr .Sally Kosgei who served as the MP for Aldai from the year 2007 to 2013.
