United States International University-Africa, also known as USIU-Africa, is a private university in Kenya. [1] The university is accredited by the Commission for Higher Education (CUE) in Kenya and by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the United States. [2] [3]

The university is currently headed by Prof. Mwenda Ntarangwi, assisted by a capable team of Management Board Members.

Location

The university campus is located in the Roysambu neighborhood, in the Kasarani suburb of Nairobi, Kenya's capital and largest city. This location lies approximately 12 kilometres (7 mi), by road, northeast of Nairobi's central business district. [4] The coordinates of the university campus are: 01°13'05.0"S, 36°52'45.0"E (Latitude:-1.218056; Longitude:36.879167). [5]

History

The university was established in 1969 as the Nairobi Campus of United States International University (USIU), a San Diego–based institution. In 1999, the United States International University, Nairobi Campus, established itself as a separate university under its new name: USIU Africa. In 2001, USIU (San Diego) merged with the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) to form Alliant International University. [6]

Over 55 nationalities are represented among the student population undertaking 38 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs at USIU-Africa. The university has an Alumni population in excess of 25,000. [1]

The school has trained approximately half of the licensed psychologists in California.

Manilal Premchand Chandaria OBE CBS EBS is a Kenyan businessman of Indian descent who was born in Nairobi. He is a senior member of the Comcraft Group of Companies, a billion dollar enterprise that has a presence in over 40 countries, and is on the boards of several prominent East African companies. He has won several awards in East Africa and internationally in recognition of his entrepreneurial endeavours and is also a noted philanthropist. In 2003, Chandaria was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II. In December of the same year, he was awarded the Elder of the Burning Spear by former president Mwai Kibaki, one of the highest civilian honours in Kenya. He has been hailed as "one of Kenya's leading industrialists".

Africa International University is a Christian university in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya.

Esther Muthoni Passaris OGW is a Kenyan politician, social entrepreneur and philanthropist. She is the Nairobi County woman representative in the bicameral Kenyan parliament, and a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Political Party.

Catherine Mturi-Wairi is a Kenyan accountant and business administrator. She is the former managing director of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and the first woman to lead the KPA. She was appointed to that position on 12 July 2016, having served in an acting capacity from February 2016. She resigned on 9 June 2018, after a 25-year career at the agency.

He then helped to expand the business’s footprint into East Africa and steering its acquisition by Dimension Data in 2014, before exiting as its Deputy CEO, in 2016.

Kellen Eileen Kariuki is an accountant, businesswoman and corporate executive in Kenya. Since January 2015, she is the executive director and CEO of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA), an agency of the central government of Kenya. The government agency, created by Act of parliament in 2011, collects unclaimed funds in the financial system, including un-cashed checks, unclaimed insurance proceeds, cash in dormant bank accounts and money in similar situations in financial institutions. The UFAA then attempts to re-unite the funds with their rightful owners or heirs, upon proper identification. In the meantime, the UFAA invests the money on behalf of the owners, to keep up with inflation.

Gladys Chepkirui Ngetich is a Kenyan engineer, and a Rhodes scholar, pursuing a doctorate degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom. She is the recipient of the Tanenbaum Fellowship and the Babaroa Excellence Award.

Jackie Chirchir, is a marketing & communications expert and designer who serves as the Principal Marketing and Communications Officer at United States International University Africa. She is also an internationally recognized designer of jewelry and furniture.

United States International University (USIU) was a nonprofit university based in San Diego, California, that was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. At its peak, it had two additional American campuses and three international locations. It was merged into Alliant International University in 2001, which became a for-profit benefit corporation in 2015.
