Karatina University is a chartered public university in the town of Karatina, in central Kenya. [4]

History

Karatina University was founded in 2007 as a Moi University campus for central Kenya, called the Moi University Central Kenya Campus. Located about 15 km north of the town of Karatina, it had an original intake of 100 students. Three years later, in 2010, it was upgraded to a constituent college of Moi University, and renamed Karatina University College. In 2013, the institution was declared a university in its own right, and was renamed Karatina University. [2] [5] [6]

Karatina University's main campus is located at Kagochi, the site of the former Karatina University College about 15 km from Karatina town. Other campuses formerly located in the town of Nanyuki, Karatina and in the settlement of Itiati, have since been annexed to the main campus as from August 2024; beginning of the 2024/25 academic year. [2]

The Vice Chancellor of Karatina University is Prof. Linus M Gitonga. [7]

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology or MMUST, formerly Western University College of Science and Technology, is a non-profit public university in Kenya. The university is named after Masinde Muliro, a Kenyan politician who helped found the institution. It has approximately 25,000 students across its branches: Main Campus and its two satellite campuses, Webuye Campus and Bungoma Campus

University of Eldoret is one of the 22 public universities in Kenya and situated approximately 9 km along the Eldoret-Ziwa road in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County. It was founded in 1946 by the white settlers as a Large Scale Farmers Training Centre. In 1984, it was converted to a teachers’ training college and renamed Moi Teachers’ Training College to offer Diploma Science Teachers Training. Pwani University is a public university in the Kilifi County in the coastal region of Kenya, located 60 km north of Mombasa in the resort town of Kilifi, within the larger Kilifi County. Prior to the award of a charter, the university was a constituent college of Kenyatta University. The college, formerly the Kilifi Institute of Agriculture, was established on 23 August 2007 by an order signed by H.E President Mwai Kibaki.

The University of Kabianga is located in Kabianga, Belgut constituency, Kericho county in Kenya. The university is situated in the Kabianga Complex, along with the Kabianga Boys High School and Primary School as well as the Kabianga Tea Farm. The Kabianga Complex has a long history.

Kisii University is a public university located in Kisii. It was founded in 1965 as a primary teachers’ training college on a 61-acre land that was donated by the County Council of Gusii. The college continued up to 1983 when it was upgraded to a secondary teachers’ college to offer Diploma programmes.

South Eastern Kenya University "SEKU" is a public university with its main campus located in Kwa Vonza, Kitui County, Kenya.

Garissa University is a public university in Garissa, Kenya. Its charter was awarded on October 23, 2017 by President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
