In the Philippines, provinces are one of its primary political and administrative divisions. There are 81 provinces at present, which are further subdivided into component cities and municipalities. The local government units in the National Capital Region, as well as independent cities, are independent of any provincial government. Each province is governed by an elected legislature called the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and an elected governor.

Jose Antonio "Bong" Nieva Carrion was a Filipino politician, who was a governor of the province of Marinduque, in the Philippines. He was born in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, and his grandfather, Juan Morente Nieva, also served as the Governor of Marinduque from 1907 to 1916. In 2011, Carrion was implicated in the assassination of broadcaster Gerry Ortega, although ultimately all charges against him were dismissed. He was married to Filipina singer and politician Imelda Papin.

Lord Allan Jay Quinto Velasco is a Filipino politician and lawyer serving as the Speaker of the House of Representatives since October 12, 2020. He is concurrently serving as the Representative of Marinduque's lone district since 2016, and previously from 2010 to 2013. He previously served as the Marinduque chapter president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and Marinduque provincial administrator under Governor Jose Antonio Carrion.
The San Jose City National High School is public secondary school in San Jose, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, was established in 1944 with 321 students enrolled and with only a few teachers. Classes in those times were held in makeshift rooms constructed of bamboo and talahib. Other classes were conducted in unoccupied first floors of residential homes. Through the cooperative efforts of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and the community, an eight hectare lot was acquired and purchased through funds they were able to raise. Quonset huts made of cogon used by the Americans as barracks were used as temporary rooms. A warehouse made of sawali and GI sheets inside the campus was also converted into classrooms.

Luisito M. Reyes was the former Governor of the province of Marinduque, Philippines. He was the brother of former Immigration Commissioner Edmundo M. Reyes and the brother-in-law of then Governor Carmencita Reyes. Luisito Reyes graduated from University of Sto. Tomas with a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and ranked 3rd on the mechanical engineering board exams and ranked 7th in the electrical engineering board exams. He was the president of the Professional Society of Mechanical Engineering for a long time.

Voters selected candidates for all local positions: a town mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, a vice-governor, a governor and a representative for the province's at-large congressional district in the House of Representatives.
