Denmark competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. 78 competitors, 57 men and 21 women, took part in 73 events in 15 sports.
Athletics has been contested at every Summer Olympics since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics. The athletics program traces its earliest roots to events used in the ancient Greek Olympics. The modern program includes track and field events, road running events, and race walking events. Cross country running was also on the program in earlier editions but it was dropped after the 1924 Summer Olympics.
Patrick Petrus Marinus van Balkom is a former Dutch sprinter. Together with Caimin Douglas, Timothy Beck and Troy Douglas he won a bronze medal in 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics. With this same team he also participated in the 4 x 100 meters relay at the 2004 Summer Olympics, but they were eliminated in the series due to a mistake in the changing area and did not qualify for the final.

Fritiof Normann Andersen was a Danish track and field athlete who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. In 1920 he was a member of the Danish relay team which finished fifth in the 4 × 100 metre relay competition. He also participated in the 100 metre event but was eliminated in the first round.
Elvi Svendsen, later Carlsen was a Danish backstroke and freestyle swimmer who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics and in the 1948 Summer Olympics.
August Emanuel Sørensen was a Danish track and field athlete who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. He was born in Helsingør and died in Frederiksberg. In 1920 he was a member of the Danish relay team which finish fifth in the 4 × 100 metre relay event. In the 100 metres competition as well as in the 200 metres event he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Niels Holst-Sørensen was a Danish athlete and air force officer, and a centenarian. He served as the commander-in-chief of the Royal Danish Air Force from 1970 to 1982, and as Denmark's military representative to NATO from 1982 to 1986. He won gold and silver medals at the 1946 European Athletics Championships and served as a member of the International Olympic Committee from 1977 to 2002.
Københavns Idræts Forening is a Danish athletics club based in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen.

Kai Sofus Marinus Jensen was a Danish athlete who competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics where, representing Københavns Idræts Forening, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the men's 400 metres, the semifinals of the men's 800 metres and the men's 4 × 100 metres relay. In the latter he competed alongside Poul Schiang, Henri Thorsen, and Mogens Truelsen. He was born in Copenhagen and died in Birkerød at the age of 100.

Mette Laugesen Graversgaard is a Danish athlete who specialises in the 60 metres hurdles and 100 metres hurdles.
