Mariyam Shakeela is a Maldivian businesswoman and politician who was the former Minister for Health and Family and the Minister of Environment and Energy of Maldives. [1]
A doctoral graduate from Curtin University, Shakeela had worked as an Executive Board of World Health Organization [ citation needed ] and a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Maldives. She is one of the founding partners of SIMDI Group of companies which is an off shoot of one of the oldest companies in Maldives. She has reportedly headed profit and non-profit institutions, membership in international bodies and was considered one of an active Civil Society contributors of advocacy on Human Rights, building peace and security.
On 21 November 2013, she was appointed the minister of Health and Gender which was abolished in tye latee year 1 July, 2014. [note 1]
The politics of the Maldives take place in the framework of a presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President is the Head of Government.
