Mark Jeffrey Gronow Davis (born 10 October 1971) is a South African former cricketer active from 1990 to 2005. He was club coach of Sussex until he left by mutual agreement in October 2017. [1] During his playing career,he played domestic cricket for Northern Transvaal (later known as Northerns),MCC,and Sussex,as well as making appearances for South Africa A and South Africa U-24s. [2]
Davis appeared in 127 first-class matches as a righthanded batsman who bowled off breaks. He scored 2,941 runs with a highest score of 168 and took 232 wickets with a best performance of eight for 37. [2] He was the captain of Northerns cricket team,before moving to England for the 2001 season, [3] as Davis held a British passport. [4] During a match against Nottinghamshire,he almost became the first person in English first-class cricket history to concede a five run penalty under Law 42 of the Laws of cricket (fair and unfair play);his second warning for repeatedly running on the wicket caused the single he scored to be deducted from the score. [4] In 2002,Davis and Robin Martin-Jenkins scored a record eighth-wicket partnership for Sussex of 291; [5] [6] as of 2015,this is still the highest eighth-wicket partnership for Sussex. [7] Davis' innings of 111 in the partnership was his maiden first-class century. [3] He was part of the Sussex team that won the 2003 County Championship,Sussex's first County Championship win, [8] and scored his highest first-class score of 168 in a 2003 match against Middlesex. [3]
Davis announced his retirement from cricket in 2005,and was then announced as a Sussex club coach,replacing Peter Moores. [8] [9] He took control of the Second Team, [3] and Mark Robinson,Sussex Professional Cricket Manager,said that "His experience both within the professional game as a player and most recently by running his own coaching academy in South Africa will make him a vital member of the coaching team." [8] In 2009,he gained his Level 4 Coaching Certificate,making him only one of three Sussex coaches with the qualification. [3] In 2011,he had a Testimonial Year,to celebrate 10 years of service to Sussex CCC. [3] In 2012,Davis swapped roles with Carl Hopkinson,making him an assistant to manager Mark Robinson. [10] In 2013,Davis was a contender to become Sri Lankan head coach, [11] although Marvan Atapattu was eventually awarded the job. [12] He has held the role of Director of Cricket at Brighton College since 2020 and was formerly Master in Charge of Cricket at Harrow School. [13]
Deshabandu Marvan Samson Atapattu is a Sri Lankan cricket coach,commentator and former cricketer who played for 17 years for Sri Lanka. Considered one of the most technically sound batsman in his era,Atapattu has scored six double centuries in Test cricket for Sri Lanka,irrespective of five ducks in his first six innings. Atapattu also captained the Sri Lankan team which won the 2004 Asia Cup. He was a part of the Sri Lankan squad which won the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
Sahan Hewa Thilina Kandambi is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and a former T20 international captain for Sri Lanka. A specialist middle-order batsman,Kandambi was marked out as a talent early,playing for the Sri Lanka Under 19s from 1998 to 2001. He also played ten first class games for the Sri Lanka A cricket team. In January 2021 he was appointed as the head coach of T10 team Bangla Tigers.
Robert Damien Bale Croft is a former Welsh cricketer who played international cricket for the England cricket team. He is an off-spin bowler who played for Glamorgan and captained the county from 2003 to 2006. He retired from first class cricket at the end of the 2012 season,having played county cricket for 23 seasons. He commentates on cricket occasionally for Sky Sports.
Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer and captain of the Sri Lankan national cricket team. He is the current consultant coach of the Sri Lankan national team and the head coach of the Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen from Sri Lankan cricket.
Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Sussex. Its limited overs team is called the Sussex Sharks. The club was founded in 1839 as a successor to the various Sussex county cricket teams,including the old Brighton Cricket Club,which had been representative of the county of Sussex as a whole since the 1720s. The club has always held first-class status. Sussex have competed in the County Championship since the official start of the competition in 1890 and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.
The Bangladeshi cricket team toured Sri Lanka for three One Day International cricket matches and two Test cricket matches in August and September 2005. The Bangladeshi team was coming off a moderately successful tour of England,as they had pushed Australia close in one ODI and beat them in another. However,they had still lost five out of six matches in the NatWest Series,both of the Test matches,and remained at the bottom of both the ICC Test Championship and ICC ODI Championship. The hosts Sri Lanka,meanwhile,were undefeated in home ODI tournaments since February 2004,and in home Test series since March 2004,both against top-ranked Australia. Their win in the Indian Oil Cup a month before this series saw them into second place in the ODI Championship,but they are only ranked sixth in Tests.
Dihan Avishka Gunawardene,is a former Sri Lankan cricketer,who played Tests and One Day Internationals. He served as the Sri Lanka A team coach for many years,and was later appointed batting coach of the national team in 2017. At present,he is the head coach of the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team.
Jehan Mubarak is an American-born former professional Sri Lankan cricketer,who played all formats of the game. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler.
The Sri Lankan cricket team toured New Zealand for cricket matches during the 2005–06 season. Sri Lanka were scheduled to play five one-day international games and three Test matches in the 2004–05 season,beginning their tour on 26 December 2004,but due to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake which hit the island of Sri Lanka hard,the Sri Lankan team travelled home after the first of the One Day Internationals. The Test matches were rescheduled to April,and the remaining four ODIs were played between 31 December 2005 and 8 January 2006.

He is a wicket-keeper and left-handed batsman. Nixon played in twenty international matches for the England cricket team,all within a four-month spell in 2007.
Robin Simon Christopher Martin-Jenkins is an English former cricketer who played for Sussex County Cricket Club and British Universities. He is 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m) tall. He is the son of cricket writer and journalist Christopher Martin-Jenkins,and as such has been nicknamed RMJ.
City Oval,is a multi-purpose stadium in Pietermaritzburg,South Africa. The 12,000 capacity stadium is currently used predominantly for cricket matches,with the ground being used by KwaZulu-Natal Inland men's and women's teams,KwaZulu-Natal and Dolphins,and hosted two matches during the 2003 Cricket World Cup. It is one of only three first-class cricket grounds in the world to have a tree within the boundary ropes (the others being St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury,United Kingdom and VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen,Netherlands),and any cricketer that scores a century or takes a five-wicket haul in a match at the City Oval gets to plant a tree at the ground. The City Oval Pavilion is based on the design of Queen's Park cricket ground in Chesterfield,United Kingdom.
The Indian cricket team toured Sri Lanka in August 1997,participating in two Test matches and three One Day International (ODI) matches. During the first Test match,Sri Lanka scored 952 runs for 6 wickets,the highest team total in Test cricket. Several more records were established in this match,including the highest partnership for the second wicket by Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama. The Test series ended without a result,with both Test matches drawn.

The Warne–Muralidaran Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Australia–Sri Lanka Test cricket series from 2007–08 season onwards. The trophy is named after the two leading wicket takers in Test cricket,Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan and Australia's Shane Warne. The trophy celebrates the 25th anniversary of Australia–Sri Lanka Test cricket. The trophy features casts of the two bowlers' right hands and match-used cricket balls bowled by them during their careers. Sri Lanka Cricket,the governing body of cricket in Sri Lanka had written to its Australian counterpart,Cricket Australia,that the winner of the series should be awarded a trophy named after the two bowlers. Cricket Australia had responded positively to the Sri Lankans' proposal. In unveiling the trophy,Cricket Australia said in a statement,
...The two greatest bowlers in world cricket history have lent their names to a perpetual prize that will be played for in the Test series between Australia and Sri Lanka.

The 1997 Pepsi Independence Cup was a quadrangular ODI cricket tournament held in May 1997 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the independence of India. It featured the national cricket teams of New Zealand,Pakistan,Sri Lanka and the hosts India. The tournament was won by Sri Lanka,which defeated Pakistan in the best-of-three finals. Sri Lanka became the Champion.
Atapattu Mudiyanselage Chamari Jayangani is a Sri Lankan cricketer and the current captain of the women's Twenty20 International team of Sri Lanka. Chamari was the tenth captain for Sri Lanka women's national cricket team. In November 2017,she was named the Women's Cricketer of the Year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards. She is the first Sri Lankan woman to play in franchise cricket. In November 2023,it was announced that a special dedicated seating zone at the Sydney Cricket Ground would be named after her as the Chamari Bay.
