Mark Del Lima is an American designer, animator, and producer known for his 2018 animated adaptation of New York Times bestseller Principles: Life & Work , the Ray Dalio as well as his work as animator on the Webby Award winning Bedsider: Fact or Fiction. [1] He is also known for his micro-budget work as producer on I Am a Ghost (2012) and Bitter Melon (2018).

Del Lima is a design director at IDEO and is the president of Ersatz (formerly Ersatz Design, of which he was the original founder).

Early life and education

Mark Del Lima was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on October 11, 1970, to Brenda Campanirio and Lionel Del Lima, saxophonist for The Graduates.

Del Lima studied electronic and photographic imaging at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth from 1992 to 1997 while working as music director for WUMD controlling the station's music selection and acting as liaison to record labels, trade journals, and artists.

In 1997, Del Lima moved to San Francisco to work at Apple Inc. as part of original development team for Final Cut Pro.

Career

Ersatz Design

In 2005, Del Lima founded Ersatz Design (stylized as rstz) with designers Jef Cunningham and Keiko Chaffee while living in Madrid where he animated advertisements for companies like Apple Inc. and created interfaces for products and games, specifically the Star Wars games on Playstation 2 including Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter and Star Wars: Racer.

IDEO

Del Lima spent three years contracting for IDEO from 2007 to 2010 as a consultant for interaction design, animation and storytelling before eventually joining as Senior Visual Interaction Designer in 2010.

He currently works as design director shaping present and future root-to-branch strategy for IDEO's North American business.

Ersatz Film

In 2008, Del Lima worked as animator and associate producer on the micro-budget film Fruit Fly, the first film directed by H.P. Mendoza. The film was acquired by TLA Releasing in 2010 and marked the change from Ersatz Design to Ersatz Film & Design.

In 2011, he produced Mendoza's sophomore effort, I Am a Ghost in which he also acted as art director, graphic designer and prop master.

In 2018, ABS-CBN launched the Cinematografo initiative to fund the works of Filipino-American filmmakers and funded the third Ersatz Film, Bitter Melon on which Del Lima acted as producer.

Ersatz Film celebrated its 10th anniversary with an anniversary screening of Fruit Fly at the 2020 edition of CAAMFest and continues to produce the work of other filmmakers including IDEO alum Roshi Givechi and horror filmmaker Tina Carbone. [2]

Books

In 2004, Del Lima co-wrote Show Me Flash Macromedia MX 2004 with Andy Anderson and Steve Johnson covering basic methodology for creating animation, interactivity, and rich media in Flash. [3]
