Mark Doms was the Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs for the Department of Commerce from January 2013 until September 2015. He was nominated by President Barack Obama on September 13,2012 [1] and was confirmed by the Senate on January 1,2013 [2] as one of the last acts of the 112th Congress. Prior to his confirmation,he was the United States Department of Commerce's Chief Economist.
As the Under Secretary,Doms contributed to policies and discussions on a wide range of issues including trade,manufacturing,taxation,innovation,competitiveness,retirement security,immigration,and education. Doms also led the Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA),which includes the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Both agencies collect and produce information on the United States' population and economy. Doms also served as the Secretary's appointed Board Representative to the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation.
After serving as Under Secretary,Doms joined the Japan-based investment bank Nomura as a senior economist and managing director. [3] He also was a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation.
Since April 2020,Doms has been the Chief Economist at the Congressional Budget Office.
Doms holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and B.A. from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in mathematics and economics. In 2022,the University of Maryland Baltimore County awarded Doms an honorary Doctorate of Public Service. In the early 1990s,he worked at the Center for Economic Studies at the Census Bureau. Following this,he worked at the Research and Statistics Division of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors,where he was a researcher in the areas of innovation,productivity,wages,manufacturing,and price measurement. He then became a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. From 2009 until he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Under Secretary for Economic Affairs,Doms was the Chief Economist at the Department of Commerce. Doms also spent time at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. [4]
While at the Federal Reserve Board of San Francisco,along with Norman Morin,he created indexes based on the number of articles that contain certain keywords and phrases in the title or first paragraph in the thirty largest newspapers across the US. For instance,the "recession index" is based on the number of articles that mention "recession" or "economic slowdown". [5]

During his tenure as chairman,Volcker was widely credited with having ended the high levels of inflation seen in the United States throughout the 1970s and early 1980s,with measures known as the Volcker shock. He previously served as the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 1975 to 1979.
Janet Louise Yellen is an American economist serving as the 78th United States secretary of the treasury since January 26,2021. She previously served as the 15th chair of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018. She is the first person to hold those positions having also led the White House Council of Economic Advisers and the first woman to hold either post.

On September 6,2017,Stanley Fischer announced that he was resigning as Vice-Chair for personal reasons effective October 13,2017,two days before his 74th birthday.

Ben Shalom Bernanke is an American economist who served as the 14th chairman of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2014. After leaving the Federal Reserve,he was appointed a distinguished fellow at the Brookings Institution. During his tenure as chairman,Bernanke oversaw the Federal Reserve's response to the late-2000s financial crisis,for which he was named the 2009 Time Person of the Year. Before becoming Federal Reserve chairman,Bernanke was a tenured professor at Princeton University and chaired the Department of Economics there from 1996 to September 2002,when he went on public service leave. Donald Lewis Kohn is an American economist who served as the 18th vice chair of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2010. Prior to his term as vice chair,Kohn served as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors,taking office in 2002. Fed's veteran,he retired after 40 years at the central bank,currently serving on the Financial Policy Committee for the Bank of England and as a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
Austan Dean Goolsbee is an American economist and writer. He is the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Goolsbee formerly served as the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. He was the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers from 2010 to 2011 and a member of President Barack Obama's cabinet. He served as a member of the Chicago Board of Education from 2018 to 2019.
William Poole was the eleventh chief executive of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. He took office on March 23,1998,and began serving his full term on March 1,2001. In 2007,he served as a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee,bringing his District's perspective to policy discussions in Washington. Poole stepped down from the Fed on March 31,2008.
