The Order of Australia is an Australian honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II,Queen of Australia,on the advice of then prime minister Gough Whitlam. Before the establishment of the order,Australians could receive British honours,which continued to be issued in parallel until 1992.
Sir Murray Louis Tyrrell was an Australian public servant,noted as the Official Secretary to the Governor-General of Australia for a record term of 26 years,1947–73,in which time he served six governors-general.
Sir David Iser Smith was an Australian public servant. He was the Official Secretary to the Governor-General of Australia between 1973 and 1990,in which capacity he served Sir Paul Hasluck,Sir John Kerr,Sir Zelman Cowen,Sir Ninian Stephen and Bill Hayden.

Ronald George "Ron" Harvey,is a former senior Australian public servant and sport administrator. He was the third director of the Australian Institute of Sport,serving in the role from 1987 until 1989.
Michael Ehrenfried Baume is a former Australian politician. A member of the Liberal Party,he served in the House of Representatives from 1975 to 1983 and as a Senator for New South Wales from 1985 to 1996. He was a parliamentary secretary in the Fraser government and was later a shadow minister. He was a business journalist and stockbroker before entering politics and later served as the Australian consul-general in New York City from 1996 to 2001.
The official secretary to the governor-general of Australia and staff provide support to the governor-general of Australia to enable the governor-general to carry out their constitutional,statutory,ceremonial and public duties. Until 1903,the governor-general’s private secretary provided the support to the governor-general,when the official secretary position was established. The position was abolished in 1928 after the Parliament moved from Melbourne to Canberra,but was recreated in 1931. The position was established by statute in its current form in 1984. Since 1 July 2024 the official secretary has been Gerard Martin.
Stephen Christopher Brady is an Australian former career diplomat. In 1999,he and his partner Peter Stephens became the world's first officially acknowledged same sex ambassadorial couple,when they were presented to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark at the start of Brady's posting as Australian Ambassador to Denmark. From September 2008 to June 2014 he was the Official Secretary to the Governor-General of Australia. During this time he was also Secretary of the Council of the Order of Australia and Secretary of the Bravery Decorations Council. In March 2014 his appointment as Ambassador to the French Republic,with concurrent accreditation to the Kingdom of Morocco,Algeria,Mauritania and the Principality of Monaco was announced.
