Mark McEwan is a celebrated Canadian chef, restaurateur, and television personality based in Toronto, Ontario. He is the founder of the McEwan Group, a culinary empire that includes the acclaimed McEwan Catering and several renowned restaurants, such as Bymark in the Toronto-Dominion Centre and Fabbrica in Thornbury.

McEwan rose to national prominence as the host of the Food Network Canada series The Heat with Mark McEwan and as the head judge on Top Chef Canada. Beyond his culinary achievements, McEwan is an active board member and alumnus of George Brown College, where he is dedicated to fostering excellence in culinary education. Career

Dennis Mark McEwan was born on May 7, 1957, in Buffalo, New York, and began his culinary journey as a dishwasher at Mindy’s Wine Cellar in Buffalo, earning $1.60 an hour. After graduating from George Brown College in 1979, McEwan was hired as executive sous chef at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto in 1981. He was promoted to chef two years later.

He went on to launch McEwan Catering, Bymark, [1] ONE, Fabbrica [2] and Diwan [3] which have all been recognized as top restaurants in Canada by leading publications like Miele Guide, OpenTable and Toronto Life Magazine. Inspired by global foodhalls, McEwan opened McEwan’s Groceries which have 2 locations across Toronto. [4]

McEwan's first book, Great Food at Home, was published in early 2011 and his second book Rustic Italian is based on the recipes from Fabbrica.[ citation needed ] McEwan teamed up with Jascor/Fresco in 2011 to brand a set of cookware that is now sold on the Shopping Channel and Hudson's Bay across Canada.[ citation needed ]

Top Chef Canada is a Canadian reality competition television series. The show premiered on April 11, 2011, on Food Network Canada. The first season consisted of 13 episodes, with 16 contestants vying for a grand prize of $100,000 and a GE Monogram kitchen valued at $30,000. Like the original American series, each week the chef contestants compete against each other in culinary challenges. Contestants are judged by a panel of professional chefs and other notables from the food and wine industry, with one or more contestants being eliminated each week. The Canadian edition uses the same graphics and music as the American version of the program.
