Mark S. Meadows (born April 29,1947) is an attorney and politician from East Lansing,Michigan. He sat on the East Lansing City Council from 1995 to 2006, [1] and from 2015 until his resignation during a city council meeting on July 14,2020. [2] [3] While on city council,he served as East Lansing Mayor from 1997 to 2006 and again from 2015 to 2019, [4] He is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives.
Mark Meadows began his career as an Assistant Attorney General for the Michigan Department of Attorney General in 1975,after earning his Juris Doctor degree that year from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Some notable cases involved represented the Department of Social Services,Mental Health,Natural Resources,and State Police. He also represented the Public Service Commission and was general counsel to the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. He retired from the Department of Attorney General in 2002 and joined the law firm of Willingham and Cote in East Lansing.
Meadows ran for East Lansing City Council in 1993 but was unsuccessful. In 1995 he ran again,winning the seat and later being appointed by the council to serve as Mayor from 1997 until stepping down in 2005. [1]
He served the 69th District of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2007 through 2012. [5] In 2012 Meadows ran for judge of 54B District Court,losing to Andrea Larkin. [6]
In 2015,he again was elected to the East Lansing City Council and appointed Mayor. He stepped down as Mayor in 2017 but remained a councilperson until abruptly resigning in protest during a City Council Meeting on July 14,2020 where council voted to terminate the City Attorney's contract. [3] [7]
Meadows has served on various committees and boards,including the East Lansing Commission on the Environment,The East Lansing Planning Commission,the Board of Directors for the Michigan Festival and National Folk Festival,and the Lansing/East Lansing Smartzome Local Development Finance Authority.
Lansing is the capital of the U.S. state of Michigan and the most populous city in Ingham County. It is mostly in the county,although portions of the city extend west into Eaton County and north into Clinton County. The 2020 census placed the city's population at 112,644,making it the sixth most populous city in Michigan. The population of its metropolitan statistical area (MSA) was 541,297 at the 2020 census,the third largest in the state after metropolitan Detroit and Grand Rapids. It was named the new state capital of Michigan in 1847,ten years after Michigan became a state.

The Michigan State University College of Law is the law school of Michigan State University,a public research university in East Lansing,Michigan. Established in 1891 as the Detroit College of Law,it was the first law school in the Detroit,Michigan area and the second in the state of Michigan. In October 2018,the college began a process to fully integrate into Michigan State University,changing from a private to a public law school. The integration with Michigan State University was finalized on August 17,2020.
The Capitol Loop was a state trunkline highway running through Lansing,Michigan,in the United States that was commissioned on October 13,1989. It formed a loop route off Interstate 496 (I-496) through downtown near the Michigan State Capitol complex,home of the state legislature and several state departments. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) had labeled it as Capitol Loop I-496 or CL I-496 on some maps,similar to the Business Loop Interstate nomenclature. However,unlike other business loops in Michigan,it had unique reassurance markers—the signs that served as regular reminders of the name and number of the highway. It was known internally at MDOT as Connector 496 for inventory purposes. The route followed a series of one-way and two-way streets through downtown Lansing,directing traffic downtown to the State Capitol and other government buildings. Unlike the other streets downtown,the seven streets comprising the Capitol Loop were under state maintenance and jurisdiction.
Virgil Paul "Virg" Bernero is an American politician and former mayor of Lansing,Michigan,elected on November 8,2005,and re-elected on November 3,2009. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to serving as mayor,Bernero served as a legislative aide,an Ingham County Commissioner and as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate. He was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Michigan in 2010,losing in the November 2 general election to Republican Rick Snyder.

Formerly the city manager of Saginaw,Michigan and emergency manager of Flint,Michigan,Earley served as temporary mayor of Flint after the recall of Woodrow Stanley. Earley was appointed emergency manager of the Detroit Public Schools system in January 2015. He resigned that position in February 2016. In January 2021 he was indicted on felony charges regarding the Flint water crisis.

Kent Vanderwood is an American politician who is the mayor of Wyoming,Michigan,previously serving as a city council member for four terms from 2006 to 2022. In July 2023 he was charged for his participation in the Trump fake electors plot during the 2020 United States presidential election. As a result,calls for his recall or resignation were advanced. As of 2023,Mayor Vanderwood has said he will not resign.
