Lansing is the capital of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is mostly in Ingham County,although portions of the city extend west into Eaton County and north into Clinton County. The 2020 census placed the city's population at 112,644,making it the sixth most populous city in Michigan. The population of its metropolitan statistical area (MSA) was 541,297 at the 2020 census,the third largest in the state after metropolitan Detroit and Grand Rapids. It was named the new state capital of Michigan in 1847,ten years after Michigan became a state.
East Lansing is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Most of the city lies within Ingham County with a smaller portion extending north into Clinton County. At the 2020 Census the population was 47,741. Located directly east of the state capital of Lansing,East Lansing is well-known as the home of Michigan State University. The city is part of the Lansing–East Lansing metropolitan area.

A member of the Democratic Party,she previously served as the attorney general of Michigan from 1999 to 2003 and as the 47th governor of Michigan from 2003 to 2011,as the first woman to hold both offices.
The Michigan State University College of Law is the law school of Michigan State University,a public research university in East Lansing,Michigan. Established in 1891 as the Detroit College of Law,it was the first law school in the Detroit,Michigan area and the second in the state of Michigan. In October 2018,the college began a process to fully integrate into Michigan State University,changing from a private to a public law school. The integration with Michigan State University was finalized on August 17,2020.
The Capitol Loop is a state trunkline highway running through Lansing,Michigan,in the United States that was commissioned on October 13,1989. It forms a loop route off Interstate 496 (I-496) through downtown near the Michigan State Capitol complex,home of the state legislature and several state departments. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has labeled it as Capitol Loop I-496 or CL I-496 on some maps,similar to the Business Loop Interstate nomenclature. However,unlike other business loops in Michigan,it has unique reassurance markers—the signs that serve as regular reminders of the name and number of the highway. It is known internally at MDOT as Connector 496 for inventory purposes. The route follows a series of one-way and two-way streets through downtown Lansing,directing traffic downtown to the State Capitol and other government buildings. Unlike the other streets downtown,the seven streets comprising the Capitol Loop are under state maintenance and jurisdiction.
Virgil Paul "Virg" Bernero is an American politician and former mayor of Lansing,Michigan,elected on November 8,2005,and re-elected on November 3,2009. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to serving as mayor,Bernero served as a legislative aide,an Ingham County Commissioner and as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate. He was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Michigan in 2010,losing in the November 2 general election to Republican Rick Snyder.
Brian John Bingman is an American politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma who has served in elected and appointed offices since the 1990s. A member of the Republican Party,he was first elected to the Sapulpa city commission in 1992,before being elected mayor by his fellow commissioners in 1994. He would serve in both of these offices until 2004,when he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives to represent the 30th district. After one term in the house,Bingman ran for the 12th district of the Oklahoma Senate in 2006 and would hold the seat until term limited in 2016. In 2011,he was elected by Republican senators to serve as the President pro tempore of the Oklahoma Senate,a position he would hold until retirement in 2016.
Darnell Earley is an American public administrator and municipal manager. Formerly the city manager of Saginaw,Michigan and emergency manager of Flint,Michigan,Earley served as temporary mayor of Flint after the recall of Woodrow Stanley. Earley was appointed emergency manager of the Detroit Public Schools system in January 2015. He resigned that position in February 2016. In January 2021 he was indicted on felony charges regarding the Flint water crisis.

The primary election was held on June 5,2012,and the general election was held on November 6,2012. This was the first city council election to use nine council districts. He also represented the 68th district in the Michigan House of Representatives,which includes most of the City of Lansing and all of Lansing Township. Schor is the first Jewish mayor of Lansing.

He served two complete terms and one partial term in the Michigan House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019. He resigned from his position in the House when he was elected as the Mayor of Flint in 2019. Neeley's wife,Cynthia,was elected to his former seat on March 10,2020. Neeley served two complete terms and one partial term on the Flint City Council between 2005 and 2014,prior to his tenure as Michigan Representative and was the Council's first African-American member to have come from Flint's Sixth Ward.
