Mark Richard Smith (born 1971), is a male former athlete who competed for Southend-on-Sea AC and Woodford Green & Essex Ladies clubs and achieved representative honours for England, and Great Britain and Northern Ireland. [1]

Athletics career

Smith won 3 individual 200m English Schools' Athletics Championships titles 1988 to 1990, and was part of the winning 4x100m relay teams 1988, 1990, representing Essex County. His Senior Boys 200m win at Wigan in 1989 commences at 2:02 at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4cGnXmpPd0 . [2]

In 1990 Smith also won the UK AAA National Junior Championship U20 200m title in 20.85w (Championship Record). [3]

Later in 1990 he represented Great Britain at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Athletics, in Plovdiv Bulgaria,a finalist in the 200m (200m final: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGmW1M1omsc commence at 24:38), and a member of the 4x100m relay team who placed 4th and set a new British U20 record of 39.78sec (4x 100m final: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgoGutyoLg4 commence at 23:45). Later in his career he moved up to the 400m and went on to represent England in the 4 x 100 metres relay (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhBWlvkzvj8) winning a bronze medal and also the 4 x 400 metres relay winning a gold medal, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. [5] [6] He is credited with winning a gold medal and a bronze medal because he ran in the semi-finals that helped England qualify for the finals. [7]

Her other individual achievements include winning the 200m at the 1981 Universiade, finishing second in the 100m at the 1981 World Cup, and winning a bronze medal in the 200m at the 1983 World Championships. She is also three-times a winner of the British Athletics Writers' Association Female Athlete of the Year Award (1980–82).

Jennifer Elaine "Jenny" Stoute is female English former sprinter. She represented Great Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, where she won a bronze medal in the 4x400 metres relay. She also appeared as Rebel in the ITV show Gladiators from 1996 to 1999.

Catherine Ann Murphy is a Welsh former athlete who competed mainly in the 200 metres and 400 metres. She finished fourth in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2004 Athens Olympics, fourth in the 400 metres at the 2003 World Indoor Championships, and won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2005 European Indoor Championships.

Michael Anthony McFarlane OBE is a retired British athlete who competed mainly in the 100 metres and 200 metres. He won an Olympic silver medal in the 4×100 metres relay at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He was the 200 m gold medallist at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and a 60 metres gold medallist at the 1985 European Athletics Indoor Championships. McFarlane won two further sprint medals at the 1986 Commonwealth Games.

Wendy Patricia Hoyte is a British former sprinter, who won a 1982 Commonwealth Games gold medal and a 1982 European Championships silver medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay. She also competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. She is the holder of the United Kingdom indoor 50 m record, which she set in 1981. As of 2016, the record still stands.

Linda Staines is a female former British track and field athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres. She represented Great Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in both the 400 metres and 4 x 400 metres relay, and won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 m relay at the 1993 World Championships. She also won four medals at the Commonwealth Games, including an individual silver medal in the 400 metres in 1990 and two relay gold medals.

Matthew John "Matt" Elias is a retired Welsh athlete who specialised in the 400 metres sprint and 400 metres hurdles. During his international career he represented Great Britain. He became the 100 m European junior champion in 2004 and won his first major title six years later by taking the 200 m gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi. He competes domestically for Enfield and Haringey Athletic Club and is coached by Michael Khmel at Loughborough University alongside the likes of Harry Aikines Aryeetey, Tim Abeyu and James Dasaolu.

Paula Dunn, is an English former sprinter who competed in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay. She represented Great Britain in all three events at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Angela Gilmour is a female English former track and field athlete who competed in the 400 metres and the 4 x 400 metres relay. In the relay, she represented Great Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, while at the Commonwealth Games, she won a silver medal in Edinburgh 1986 and a gold medal in Auckland 1990.

Andrea Joan Caron Lynch is a British former track and field sprinter who competed mainly in the 100 metres. A two-time Olympian, the peak of her career was becoming a bronze medallist in the 100 m at the 1974 European Championships and a double silver medallist in the 100 m and 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games. A former British record holder in the 100 m, she has a hand-timed best of 10.9 seconds in 1974 and an auto-timed best of 11.16 secs in 1975. Her 200 metres best is 23.15 secs in 1975.
