Marquette is the county seat of Marquette County and the largest city in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Located on the shores of Lake Superior, Marquette is a major port, known primarily for shipping iron ore from the Marquette Iron Range. The city is partially surrounded by Marquette Township, but the two are administered autonomously.

Northern Michigan, also known as Northern Lower Michigan, is a region of the U.S. state of Michigan. A popular tourist destination, it is home to several small- to medium-sized cities, extensive state and national forests, lakes and rivers, and a large portion of Great Lakes shoreline. The region has a significant seasonal population much like other regions that depend on tourism as their main industry. Northern Lower Michigan is distinct from the more northerly Upper Peninsula and Isle Royale, which are also located in "northern" Michigan. In the northernmost 21 counties in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, the total population of the region is 506,658 people.
Bryan Anthony Smolinski is an American former professional ice hockey center. The Boston Bruins drafted him 21st overall in 1990. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens. He had also previously played with the Port Huron Icehawks of the International Hockey League (IHL).
Presque Isle State Park is a 3,112-acre (1,259 ha) Pennsylvania State Park on an arching, sandy peninsula that juts into Lake Erie, 4 miles (6 km) west of the city of Erie, in Millcreek Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. The peninsula sweeps northeastward, surrounding Presque Isle Bay along the park's southern coast. It has 13 miles (21 km) of roads, 21 miles (34 km) of recreational trails, 13 beaches for swimming, and a marina. Popular activities at the park include swimming, boating, hiking, biking, and birdwatching.
The New Presque Isle Light was built in 1870, at Presque Isle, Michigan, east of Grand Lake, and sits on the namesake peninsula. It is one of 149 lighthouses in Michigan, more than any other state. Because of changing shoreline particularly, or alternatively deterioration of the original building, it is not uncommon for a replacement lighthouse to be placed in the vicinity of an earlier light, in this case, the Old Presque Isle Light.
The Old Presque Isle Light was the first lighthouse in the Presque Isle, Michigan area, built in 1840, supported physically by two-thirds stone and one-third brick, and supported financially by funds appropriated by Congress two years earlier of $5,000. The tower and dwelling did not last long in the harsh weather, however, and by 1867 they were deteriorated enough for Congress to find need for a newer station. It presently is not operational and is a museum.
The Ottawa National Forest is a national forest that covers 993,010 acres (401,860 ha) in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. It includes much of Gogebic and Ontonagon counties, as well as slices of Iron, Houghton, Baraga, and Marquette counties. The forest is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Forest Service.
Petoskey High School is a public, magnet high school located in Petoskey, Michigan. Petoskey High School, a part of the Public Schools of Petoskey school district, offers a complementary mix of academic, athletic and leadership opportunities for enrolled students. The alternative public high school in Petoskey is Concord Academy, a K–12 public charter school focused on integration between the arts and academics.
Richard Gale Rifenburg was an American football player and a pioneering television broadcaster for the forerunner to WIVB-TV in Buffalo. He played college football for the University of Michigan Wolverines in 1944 and from 1946 to 1948. He was a consensus selection at end on the 1948 College Football All-America Team. Rifenburg played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) with the Detroit Lions for one season in 1950. After retiring from football he settled in Buffalo and became a sports broadcaster. He worked as a color commentator and as a play-by-play announcer for the Buffalo Bulls. He hosted various television and radio sports shows and was eventually inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Frederick Lee "Ted" Petoskey was a three-sport athlete at the University of Michigan, a Major League Baseball player, a collegiate coach in three sports and an athletic director.
Andrew Neumann is a Democratic state legislator from Michigan. He served in the Michigan State House of Representatives, representing the 106th District from 2009 to 2010. The 106th District is located in the North East Lower Peninsula and includes all of Alcona, Alpena, Crawford, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Presque Isle counties. He was elected on November 4, 2008 to replace outgoing Rep. Matthew Gillard. Neumann previously represented the 106th District from 1999–2003 and was an unsuccessful candidate for the Michigan State Senate in 2002. In 2003, he was appointed Fire Marshal for the State of Michigan.
Stephen Sebo was an American football and baseball player, coach, college athletics administrator, and professional sports executive. He played baseball and football at Michigan State University, from which he graduated in 1937. He then played minor league baseball and coached sports at Petoskey High School in Petoskey, Michigan. During the World War II era, he served in the United States Army Air Forces and was discharged after 5 years with the rank of major. After the war, Sebo was the head football coach at Alma College from 1946 to 1948 and at the University of Pennsylvania from 1954 to 1959, compiling a career college football record of 33–42–2.
The Radka–Bradley House also known as the Bradley House, was built as a private house at 176 West Michigan Avenue in Rogers City, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, and is now the Presque Isle County Historical Museum.
The Tip of the Mitt AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in the northern Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. This Michigan wine region is approximately 2,760 square miles (7,100 km2) in extent. It includes all or part of Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, and Presque Isle counties. These are counties that are located at the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula, north of the established winemaking AVAs grouped around Traverse City. Active TOTM wineries are grouped around Petoskey. The Tip of the Mitt AVA was established in August 2016. The major wine trail in the area, The 'Petoskey Area Wine Region', was formerly known as 'The Bay View Wine Trail'.
