Marshall Edward Cusic Jr. (born 24 August 1943) [1] [2] is a retired rear admiral in the United States Navy Reserve who served as the deputy commander for total force integration, Navy Medicine Support Command, and chief of the Medical Reserve Corps, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
A native of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Cusic practices medicine at Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin. [3] He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and the Medical College of Wisconsin and is associate clinical professor of pediatrics (allergy and immunology) at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Cusic is also a member of the American College of Physician Executives. [4] [5]
Cusic joined the United States Navy in 1966. He would serve in Puerto Rico from 1971 to 1975 before transferring to the Navy Reserve. After transferring, he would serve with a U.S. Marine division in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. [6]
Recalled to active duty in 1978, he was stationed in San Diego, California. After returning to the Navy Reserve, he would serve in Madison, Wisconsin. Cusic would go on to lead training exercises to Costa Rica and Indonesia and conduct field research on the dengue virus at the Naval Medical Research Institute and in Peru. [7]
Cusic commanded Naval Reserve Naval Hospital Great Lakes from 1997 to 1998 and Naval Reserve Fleet Hospital Great Lakes from 1999 to 2001. In 2003, he was named deputy surgeon, United States Pacific Fleet before being named to his current positions in 2005 and 2006. [8] [9] [10]
Awards he has received include the Legion of Merit, the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with two service stars, the Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon, the Navy Overseas Service Ribbon with award star and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with silver hourglass device. Marshfield is a city in northwest Wood and southwest Marathon counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 10, Highway 13 and Highway 97. The largest city in Wood County, its population was 19,118 at the 2010 census. Of this, 18,218 were in Wood County, and 900 were in Marathon County. The city is part of the United States Census Bureau's Marshfield-Wisconsin Rapids Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Wood County. The portion of the city in Marathon County is part of the Wausau Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Gold Lifesaving Medal and Silver Lifesaving Medal are U.S. decorations issued by the United States Coast Guard. The awards were established by Act of Congress, 20 June 1874; later authorized by 14 U.S.C. § 500. These decorations are two of the oldest medals in the United States and were originally established at the Department of Treasury as Lifesaving Medals First and Second Class. The Department of the Treasury initially gave the award, but today the United States Coast Guard awards it through the Department of Homeland Security. They are not classified as military decorations, and may be awarded to any person.

He previously served as Commander Joint Task Force 134, and prior to that as Deputy Chief of the Navy Reserve. He is a 1977 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he was co-captain of Navy's first National Championship Sailing team and named an intercollegiate "All American."
Rear Admiral Christine M. Bruzek-Kohler was the 21st Director of the United States Navy Nurse Corps, and served as the Commander Naval Medical Center San Diego and Navy Medicine West from May 2009 to August 2010. She officially retired from the Navy in December 2010.
