Marta Kuzma (born June 21, 1964 [1] ) is a curator, art theorist, and educator. In 2016, she became Dean of the Yale School of Art and is the first woman to serve in that role since the school was founded in 1869. [2] [3] [4]

Biography

Marta Kuzman holds a B.A. in Art History and Political Economics from Barnard College and an M.A. in Aesthetics and Art Theory from the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Middlesex University, London. [4]

Academic career

She was previously the vice chancellor and rector of the Stockholm Royal Institute of Art since 2014. [5] Prior to her tenure at the Royal Institute of Art, Kuzma also served eight years as director of the Office for Contemporary Art Norway. In this role, she curated OCA's contribution to the Venice Biennial with the projects "The Collectors: Elmgreen & Dragset" (2009), "The State of Things" (2011), and "Beware of the Holy Whore: Munch and the Dilemma of Emancipation" (2013). [6] She was also the founding director of the Soros Center for Contemporary Art in Kyiv, Ukraine, the artistic director of the Washington Project for the Arts, in Washington, D.C., and was head of international exhibitions program at International Center of Photography in New York. In 2004, she co-curated Manifesta 5 with Massimiliano Gioni in San Sebastian, Spain and in 2012 and she was a curator for Documenta (13). [7] [8] [9]

Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev is an Italian-American writer, art historian, and exhibition maker who served as the Director of Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Turin in 2009 and from 2016 to 2023. She was also the founding Director of Fondazione Francesco Federico Cerruti from 2017 to 2023. She was Edith Kreeger Wolf Distinguished Visiting Professor in Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University (2013–2019). She is the recipient of the 2019 Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence. She is currently Honorary Guest Professor at FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern, Switzerland. Documenta 13 was the thirteenth edition of the German contemporary art exhibition Documenta. It took place between 9 June until 16 September 2012 in Kassel, Germany. The exhibition was held under the theme "collapse and recovery". Exhibits could be seen in several venues in the city, among others in the Fridericianum museum, in the Orangerie and in the Karlsaue, a large urban park.

Massimiliano Gioni is an Italian curator and contemporary art critic based in New York City, and artistic director at the New Museum. Moon held her solo exhibition at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in 2004. Her recent exhibitions include Poiesis of Collective Intelligence at Yamaguchi Center Arts and Media in 2013 and A Different Similarity at BOCUM Museum, Germany in 2010.
