Marten Van Riel (born 15 December 1992) [1] is a Belgian triathlete.

Biography

Van Riel was born in Loenhout, Antwerp. He competed in the men's event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. [2] He ended sixth. In 2018, he won bronze medals at the 2018 European Triathlon Championships in the men's individual and mixed team relay events. He competed in Triathlon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and finished 4th.

In 2019, he won the silver medal in the men's triathlon at the 2019 Military World Games held in Wuhan, China. [3]

Van Riel also competes in Super League Triathlon. [4] He won both of the Super League Triathlon Arena Games races in 2021. [5]

In March 2022, Marten Van Riel won the Ironman 70.3 in Dubaï. [6] He complete the race in 3h27'40. [7]

An Ironman 70.3, also known as a Half Ironman, is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The "70.3" refers to the total distance in miles (113.0 km) covered in the race, consisting of a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run. Each distance of the swim, bike, and run segments is half the distance of that segment in an Ironman Triathlon. The Ironman 70.3 series culminates each year with a World Championship competition, for which competitors qualify during the 70.3 series in the 12 months prior to the championship race. In addition to the World Championship race, Ironman 70.3 championship competitions are also held for the European, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America regions.

Super League Triathlon is a league of nonstandard triathlon-based races held in the traditional off-season of the sport. Every race involves a swim, bike and run element but all contain additional rules in an aim to test athletic ability, increase viewer excitement and increase the popularity of triathlon more globally.

Matthew Hauser is an Australian triathlete. In 2021, he competed in the men's triathlon at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He also competed in the mixed relay event.

The 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series was the 13th season of the World Triathlon Championship Series, the top level international series for triathlon, since its establishment in 2009. The season consisted of four pairs of triathlon races for both a men's and women's competition, beginning on May 15 in Yokohama, and concluding on August 21 with the grand final in Edmonton. The series calendar also included the 2020 Summer Olympics individual races on July 26 and 27 and mixed relay event on July 31.
