Nodaway County is a county located in the northwest part of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,241. Its county seat is Maryville. The county was organized February 14, 1845, and is named for the Nodaway River. It is the largest in area of the counties added to Missouri in the 1836 Platte Purchase and the fourth-largest county by area in Missouri.
Dennis Lynn Rader, also known as BTK, is an American serial killer who murdered at least ten people in Wichita and Park City, Kansas, between 1974 and 1991. Although Rader occasionally killed or attempted to kill men and children, he typically targeted women. His victims were often bound, sometimes with objects from their homes, and either suffocated with a plastic bag or manually strangled with a ligature.
Holly Maria Jones was a 10-year-old child abduction and murder victim from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. On May 12, 2003, while walking a friend home, she was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and strangled by Michael Briere. After dismembering her body, Briere attempted to discard the remains by placing them in two bags and used weights to try to sink them in the Toronto Harbour. The bags were found the next morning.

Joanna Clare Yeates was a landscape architect from Ampfield, Hampshire, England, who went missing from the flat she shared with her partner, in a large house in Clifton, Bristol, on 17 December 2010 after an evening out with colleagues. Following a highly publicised appeal for information on her whereabouts and intensive police enquiries, her body was discovered on 25 December 2010 in Failand, North Somerset. A post-mortem examination determined that she had been strangled.
Sian Emma O'Callaghan was a 22-year-old British woman who disappeared from Swindon, Wiltshire, England, having last been seen at a nightclub in the town in the early hours of 19 March 2011. Her body was found on 24 March near Uffington in Oxfordshire. On 19 October 2012, at Bristol Crown Court, Christopher Halliwell, 48, of Nythe, Swindon pleaded guilty to O'Callaghan's murder.

He is confirmed to have tortured and killed at least two couples in Illinois and Texas in 1989 and 1990, and is additionally suspected of torturing, raping, and killing more than fifty women between 1975 and 1990, based on data about his truck routes and women who went missing during those years and who met the profile of his preferred victims. At the time he was caught, Rhoades claimed to have engaged in these activities for fifteen years.

A short time after this incident, she vanished from her family's rural property. Dennis Bowman claimed that she had stolen money from her adopters before running away.
Gary Randall Muehlberg, known as The Package Killer, is an American serial killer who killed at least four women and one man in and around St. Louis, Missouri from 1990 to 1993. Originally convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a man in 1993, he was linked to the murders of four prostitutes via DNA in early 2022, to which he pleaded guilty and received additional life terms.
Francis Donald Nemechek is an American serial killer who kidnapped, raped, and murdered four women and a young boy in Kansas between 1974 and 1976. Following his arrest, he admitted to committing the murders but claimed to not be criminally responsible for them. He was subsequently tried, found guilty, and sentenced to life imprisonment, and has since been denied parole four times.
Richard Anthony Grissom Jr. is an American serial killer who kidnapped and murdered three young women in Johnson County, Kansas, over eight days in June 1989. Having been imprisoned years earlier for killing his neighbor, Grissom disposed his victims' bodies and they have never been found to date. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 1990.
The Great Basin Murders is the name given to a series of murders of at least nine women committed between 1983 and 1997 across the states of Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and Idaho. It derives its name from the Great Basin geographical area, as most of the victims had their bodies dumped near interstate highways that transverse it.
Patricia Jeschke was an American woman murdered in St. Joseph, Missouri, on November 12, 1980. An investigation led by Lloyd Pasley arrested Joseph Wabski and Sandra Hemme for the murder and Hemme was convicted for Jeschke's murder in 1981. However, Hemme recanted her confession and a new trial was held in 1985, which found her guilty. Hemme claimed to have knowledge about the disappearance of Micki Jo West, which was later featured on Unsolved Mysteries.
