A 2021 estimate has the population of Hillsborough County at 1,512,070 people with a yearly growth rate of 1.34%,which itself is greater than the populations of 12 states according to their 2019 population estimates. Its county seat and largest city is Tampa. Hillsborough County is part of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Incumbent Attorney General Bill McCollum opted to run for run for Governor rather than seek reelection. The election was won by Republican Pam Bondi,a former assistant state attorney for Hillsborough County,who defeated Democrat Dan Gelber by a 54.8% to 41.1% margin. Bondi took office in January 2011.

On July 8,2022,Stormie filed to run for Raleigh's at-large district in the 2022 Raleigh election.
The 2021 St. Petersburg,Florida,mayoral election was held on August 24,2021,with a runoff on November 2 because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the first round. It elected the mayor of St. Petersburg,Florida. Incumbent Democratic mayor Rick Kriseman was term-limited and could not seek a third term in office. Municipal elections in St. Petersburg are officially nonpartisan. Former Pinellas County commissioner Ken Welch easily defeated city councilor Robert Blackmon in the runoff. Candidates eliminated in the first round included city councilor Darden Rice,former state representative Wengay Newton,and restaurateur Pete Boland. Welch took office in January 2022,becoming the first black mayor of St. Petersburg.
