Mary Roe Walkup (born May 4,1924) is an American former politician who was a delegate in the Maryland House of Delegates. She represented District 36,which covers Caroline,Cecil,Kent and Queen Anne's Counties.
First elected in 1994,she won one of two seats left open by R. Clayton Mitchell and C. Ronald Franks, [1] serving alongside Wheeler R. Baker and Ronald A. Guns. [2] In 1998,delegates were elected by county,in which case Walkup defeated Democratic challenger Clarence Hawkins for the seat in Kent County. [3] In 2002,the election returned to the District selecting three delegates from the list. She was one of three Republicans,the others being Richard Sossi and Michael D. Smigiel,Sr.,that helped unseat incumbent Wheeler R. Baker. [4] Finally,in 2006,the election returned to voting for one candidate per county,and she won reelection by defeating Joan O. Horsey. [5]
Walkup attended Kent County public schools. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Nursing with her R.N. in 1945.
After college,Walkup was a nurse at the University of Maryland Hospital. In 1978,she was elected to the Board of County Commissioners for Kent County,serving two terms,the second term as President.
Walkup has also been a lifelong advocate of environmental matters. She served for four years starting in 1982 as a delegate for the Legislative Committee on the Maryland Association of Counties. She is a charter member of Kent Conservation,Inc., [6] as citizens' watchdog group founded in 1969 that focuses on environmental issues in Kent County.
Walkup is also a member of the Kent Chapter of the American Red Cross,Kent County Farm Bureau,the Chester River Association,the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy,and the Maryland Conservation Council. In 1977,she received the Conservationist of the Year from the Maryland Wildlife Federation. [7]
As a member of the Maryland House of Delegates,Walkup served on the Economic Matters Committee beginning in 1995,and several other subcommittees.

Tony McConkey is a former elected official in the Maryland House of Delegates. He was first elected in 2002, taking the seat of former Delegate Janet Greenip, who ran for a State Senate seat. He served in District 33, which is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He lost a bid for re-election in 2018 to Democratic challenger Heather Bagnall.
Tony O'Donnell is an American politician, who represented District 29C in the Maryland House of Delegates. In 2016, Governor Larry Hogan appointed him to the Maryland Public Service Commission. He retired from the commission in June 2024.
Donald B. Elliott was an American politician of the Republican Party in the state of Maryland. He served from 1986 to 2015 as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. He served as the representative of Maryland legislative district 4B, which encompasses Carroll and Frederick Counties in Western Maryland. Delegate Elliott was known for his dedication to health care issues, particularly the crisis in Maryland regarding uncompensated care, and worked in later years to address the issue of removing citizens from the uninsured rolls through various measures.

Gail Bates was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2015 to 2019 and a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 2002 to 2015. She was selected to replace Robert Kittleman in the Maryland House of Delegates in February 2002 when Kittleman was selected to replace Chris McCabe in the Maryland State Senate. In a close election in 2018, Bates was defeated by non-profit executive Katie Fry Hester by 1.7 percentage points. Bates was nominated to serve on the state Board of Education by Gov. Miller was appointed by Governor Bob Ehrlich on March 7, 2003 to replace Robert L. Flanagan, who resigned from the Maryland House of Delegates on February 28, 2003, to become the Maryland Secretary of Transportation. On November 30, 2020, Miller announced his intent to resign at the end of 2020.
Michael D. Smigiel Sr. was an American politician who was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, where he represented District 36, which covers Caroline, Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne's Counties. He was first elected in 2002 along with fellow Republicans Richard Sossi and Mary Roe Walkup after the legislative boundaries were redrawn. Prior to 2002, District 36 had a separate representative for Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne's Counties. After combining the districts, Smigiel won the seat previously occupied by former Elkton Mayor, James Crouse. Crouse was appointed to the seat in July 2001 following Governor Parris Glendenning's appointment of longtime Elkton Delegate Ronald A. Guns to the Public Service Commission. In 2006, he defeated Democratic challenger Mark Guns for reelection. In the 2006 election, the voting method returned to voting for a representative for each county.

Virginia Lawrence (Parker) Clagett is an American politician from Maryland and a member of the Democratic Party. She served in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Maryland's District 30 in Anne Arundel County, until her 4th term ended in December 2010. A proven vote-getter for decades, she lost re-election in November 2010 to Delegate Herbert H. McMillan. Clagett is a member of the Marlborough Hunt Club, a local Fox Hunt in Southern Maryland.
Stephen W. Lafferty is an American politician who was a member of Maryland House of Delegates from January 2007 to September 2019, representing District 42 from 2007 to 2015, and District 42A from 2015 to 2019. Lafferty was the first Democrat to be elected in district 42 since it was moved to Baltimore County after the 21st century census and redistricting. In September 2019, he resigned from the House of Delegates to serve as chief sustainability officer for Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski.
