"Masakali 2.0" is an Indian recreated version of 2009 Indian film Delhi-6 's song "Masakali". It is recreated by Tanishk Bagchi in the voice of Sachet Tandon and Tulsi Kumar. The original song was sung by Mohit Chauhan, composed by A.R.Rahman and written by Prasoon Joshi. The original song was picturised on Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor while "Masakali 2.0" was picturised on Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria. The song received strong negative reviews after its release. [1]

Background

The song was initially planned to be a part of the 2019 film Marjaavaan , but was released as an independent single instead. [2]

Release and music video

The teaser and poster of the single was released by T-Series on its social handles on 7 April 2020. The video was directed by Adil Shaikh. It shows Malhotra and Sutaria enjoying in a hotel suite. The set is similar to Marjaavaan .[ citation needed ]

Critical response

It was released on 8 April 2020, and received over 15 million views in the first 24 hours of its release on YouTube. As of October 2021, the single has received over 48 million views in YouTube, including the official video, lyrical video and audio song on the platform.

The song received highly negative reviews from the audience and the actors alike. Bagchi was severely criticized for remaking the song in a new way. There is a huge number of memes which shows negative response from the audience. The original composer A.R.Rahman, original lyricist Prasoon Joshi and others of the original team also criticized the recreation. [4] [5] [6] [7]
