Masvingo Urban is a constituency represented in the National Assembly of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, comprising the city of Masvingo and surrounding residential areas. [1] It was created ahead of the 2008 election with territory taken from the Masvingo Central constituency. [1] Its current MP since the 2023 election is Martin Mureri of the Citizens Coalition for Change. [2] Previously, the constituency was represented by Jacob Nyokanhete of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance following the 2018 election. [3]

Profile

In 2008, Masvingo Urban had 31,489 registered voters. [1] The constituency had a poverty rate of 76 percent, with animal husbandry, formal employment, cross-border trading with South Africa, and tourism at Great Zimbabwe being the leading sources of income. [1] Masvingo Urban was ethnically diverse, with residents coming from the Karanga, Zezuru, and Manyika sub-groups of the Shona people, as well as Ndebele people. [1]

Masvingo, originally Victoria, encampases metropolitan Masvingo, in Masvingo Province in southern Zimbabwe. The district boasts of the Great Zimbabwe National Monument among its list of tourist attractions. Lake Kyle is also nearby. The people in the district are mostly rural, communal farmers. Mushandike Co-op. is found in the district, in which the villagers use the water from Tokwe River to irrigate their patches of land. Ngomahuru Hospital which is the second largest Psychiatric hospital in the country is also located.

Its current MP since the 2023 general election is Brian James of the Citizens Coalition for Change, the former mayor of Mutare. The constituency was previously represented between 2000 and 2023 by Innocent Gonese.

Gutu North was a constituency represented in the National Assembly of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, located in Gutu District in Masvingo Province. It was abolished ahead of the 2023 general election.

Chitungwiza North is a constituency represented in the National Assembly of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, located in Harare Province. It covers part of Chitungwiza, a dormitory city of Harare. Its current MP since the 2013 election is Godfrey Sithole of the Citizens Coalition for Change.
