Matheran Railway Station is the upper terminus of the Matheran Hill Railway (MHR). It is the fifth and last station of the narrow gauge line.
The station is at an elevation of approximately 2,625 feet (800 m) in the Western Ghats. [4] As no automobiles are allowed in Matheran it provides the sole mechanised means of transport, the alternative being walking or horseback from the previous station Aman Lodge, [5] some 3 km distant., [6] with trains to Neral suspended. [7]
The Station buildings, depot and railway infrastructure at Matheran are all mentioned in the UNESCO nomination tentative list for the Matheran Light Railway. [8] No. 741, an ML class steam locomotive that originally worked the line is preserved on a plinth at Matheran station. An old bell dated 1907 hangs outside the station office. It has the inscriptions: 'J.Warner London | 1907'

Neral to Matheran Train Route was developed by East India Company for trading and colonial purposes. Hutatma Veer Bhai Kotwal was a great hero who rebelled against British Police in Neral - Matheran. Villages followed the same in following years to safeguard themselves from regular floods affecting their homes, farms and animals.
The Matheran Hill Railway (MHR) is a 2 ft narrow-gauge heritage railway in Maharashtra, India, which is administered by the Central Railway zone. It covers a distance of 21 km (13 mi), cutting a swathe through forest and connecting Neral to Matheran in the Western Ghats. The MHR is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The distance between Aman Lodge and Matheran is 3 km.
Water Pipe railway station is a railway station on the Neral – Matheran railway line of the Matheran Hill Railway. It is named so for its proximity to water pipes.
Sealdah railway division is one of the four railway divisions under the Eastern Railway zone of the Indian Railways. Its headquarters is located in Kaiser Street in Kolkata, West Bengal near the Sealdah railway station. Geographically the division covers the railway tracks and services in the areas between the Hooghly river on the west, Bangladesh on the north and east and the Sundarbans in the south. The Railway network under Sealdah Division was part of the Eastern Bengal Railway. The Eastern Bengal Railway was formed on 1st July, 1884. On 1st January, 1942, Assam Bengal Railway and Eastern Bengal Railway were amalgamated to form Bengal Assam Railway. Sealdah Division became a part of East Indian Railway on 15th August, 1947, after the Partition of India and Partition of Bengal. The East Indian Railway was formed on 1st June, 1845. On 14th April, 1952, East Indian Railway was renamed as Eastern Railway.
Port Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway is a railway line serving between CBD Belapur and Nerul in Navi Mumbai with Uran in Navi Mumbai of India, which is attached to the Harbour line. It was inaugurated on 11 November 2018. Daily services started on 12 November 2018.
Vikatgad / Peb Fort is a fort located 19 km (12 mi) from Karjat, in Raigad district, of Maharashtra. This fort is in continuation with the Malang gad, Tauli Hill and Chanderi fort of the Matheran Hill Range. Vikatgad is a favourite destination for one-day trekkers. The trek path to Vikatgad is along deep ravines and cliffs. Its closeness to Matheran and Neral attracts many trekkers on weekends. The forest department and local villagers are doing plantation and some restoration works on the fort. The altitude of Vikatgad, also known as Peb fort is 640 meters above sea level.
MLR nos. 1-4 were four steam locomotives that operated on the Matheran Hill Railway, supplied by German engineering company Orenstein and Koppel. These locomotives served the railway from its inauguration in 1907, until 1982, when they were withdrawn from service, and completely replaced by diesel locomotives.
