Mathieu Fonteyn (born 14 February 1985) is a Belgian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. [1] [2] He represented his nation Belgium at the 2008 Summer Olympics, placing himself among the top 20 swimmers with an illustrious Belgian record in the 200 m butterfly. [3] Fonteyn trained under the tutelage of the national team's assistant coach Rik Valcke at a local swimming club in Bruges until his abrupt retirement shortly before London 2012 due to sustained injuries. Fonteyn competed for the Belgian swimming squad in the men's 200 m butterfly at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Leading up to the Games, he placed fourth in the top-eight final at the European Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands with an Olympic A-cut time of 1:56.86. [6] [7] Fonteyn blasted a new Belgian record of 1:56.65 to obtain the seventh spot and nineteenth overall in the last of six preliminary heats, narrowly missing out the top 16 semifinal by just sixth hundredths of a second (0.06) and trailing all-time Olympian and eventual world record holder Michael Phelps, who competed in the same race as Fonteyn, by nearly three seconds. Glenn Surgeloose is a Belgian swimmer, who specializes in sprint freestyle events. He collected a bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle at the 2007 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Surgeloose is a member of Brabo Antwerp, and is coached and trained by Ronald Gaastra.

Pieter Timmers is a Belgian retired competitive swimmer who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He won the silver medal in the 100 meter freestyle at the 2016 Olympics. Timmers currently holds nine Belgian records, and seven national titles in long and short course freestyle. Timmers is a resident athlete for Brabo Antwerp, and trains under his personal coach Ronald Gaastra. He stands 2.00 m, and weighs 89 kg (196 lb). He ended his career in Budapest in the second season of the International Swimming League in 2020.

Choi Hye-Ra is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in butterfly and individual medley events. She collected four medals in the 200 m butterfly, 200 m individual medley, and the 800 m freestyle relay at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, and at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. She also won a silver medal in the same medley distance at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China, with a time of 2:14.17. She is a resident athlete of Osan Sports Club in Seoul.

Yoris Grandjean is a Belgian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He won two gold medals at the 2006 FINA Youth World Swimming Championships, and later represented Belgium at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Since 2009, he still currently holds a Belgian record (22.13) in the 50 m freestyle from the national championships in Antwerp. Grandjean also trains for Liège Swimming Club under his head coach Andre Henvaux.

Christine Mailliet is a Luxembourgian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. She is a multiple-time Luxembourgish record holder in both long and short course freestyle and butterfly.

Georgi Palazov is a Bulgarian former swimmer, who specialized in butterfly and medley events. He represented Bulgaria at three Olympic Games – 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Palazov achieved his best possible result at the Olympics, when he finished thirty-ninth in the men's 200 m butterfly in 2008, with a time of 2:01.84. Palazov also competed in the men's 400 m individual medley in Sydney, where he set a national record, with a time of 4:35.92, finishing only in fortieth place.

José Emmanuel Crescimbeni Barrantes is an American-born competition swimmer who has represented Peru in international events, specializing in the butterfly. He represented his parents' homeland Peru at the 2008 Summer Olympics and has currently owned Peruvian records in both the 100 and 200 m butterfly. While residing in the United States, Crescimbeni claimed the 2007 Florida High School state championship title in his signature events, and later served as a member of the Florida Gators swimming and diving team under head coach Gregg Troy.

Daniel William Henry "Danny" Wong Bego, OLY is a Malaysian swimmer, who specialises in freestyle and butterfly events. He emerged as one of Malaysia's most promising and outstanding swimmers, winning a total of fifteen medals at the Southeast Asian Games, and breaking six national records. He was the first Malaysian swimmer to compete in three different events at a single Olympic Games.

Tetyana Valentynivna Khala is a Ukrainian swimmer, who specialized in butterfly events. She represented her nation Ukraine at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in the top 30 of the women's 200 m butterfly.

Serhiy Mykolaiovych Advena is a Ukrainian former swimmer who specializes in the freestyle and butterfly swimming styles. He is a two-time Olympian, and a multiple-time Ukrainian record holder in both 100 and 200 m butterfly. He also helped out the Ukrainian team to upset their American rivals and claim the medley relay title (3:38.49) at the 2005 Summer Universiade in Izmir, Turkey.

Rehan Jahangir Poncha is an Indian former swimmer, Olympian, Arjuna Award winner and a six-time national champion, who specialized in backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley events. He is also the recipient of the Eklavya Award from the Karnataka Olympic Association. He is a 6-time Indian swimming champion, and a 6-time record holder in the butterfly. Poncha also set two of his records in the freestyle and medley relays at the 2009 Asian Swimming Championships in Foshan, China, along with his teammates Sandeep Sejwal, Virdhawal Khade, and Aaron D'Souza.

Donny Budiarto Utomo is an Indonesian swimmer, who specialized in butterfly events. He is a former multiple-time national record holder for the men's butterfly, and a six-time medalist at the Southeast Asian Games. He is also a two-time defending champion for the 200 m butterfly, before losing out to Malaysia's Daniel Bego at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Norbert Kovács is a Hungarian swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. He represented his nation Hungary at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has won a bronze medal in the 200 m butterfly at the 2006 European Junior Swimming Championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain with a time of 2:00.20. Kovacs is a member of the swimming team for Kőbánya Sport Club in Budapest, under the tutelage of head coach Zsigmond Gyenge.

Dominik Straga is a Croatian swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. He represented his nation Croatia at the 2008 Summer Olympics and has claimed multiple Croatian championship titles and three national records in the long and short course freestyle, and butterfly. He also won two bronze medals in the same stroke at the 2006 European Junior Swimming Championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, with respective times of 24.62 and 54.51.

Javier Hernández Maradiaga is a Honduran swimmer, who specialized in butterfly events. He represented his nation Honduras at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has currently owned a Central American record in the 200 m butterfly. Hernandez also spent his college career in the United States as a member of the Lindenwood Lions swimming and diving team under head coach Craig Penrose while pursuing his major in computer science at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.

Irakli Revishvili is a Georgian swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. He represented his nation Georgia at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has currently owned two Georgian national records in both the 200 and 400 m freestyle. Revishvili also trained for the national swimming team under the tutelage of head coach and 2004 Olympian Zurab Khomasuridze.
