Matila Baleilekutu Balekana (born 1932) is a Fijian-born Solomon Islander, who co-wrote the national anthem of the Solomon Islands with her husband, Panapasa Balekana. [1]
Matila Balekana is originally from Fiji, [1] but has spent the majority of her adult life in the Solomon Islands. She and her husband had two children together, a son and a daughter.
The couple co-wrote the national anthem of the Solomon Islands, "God Save Our Solomon Islands", as part of a government competition. [1] Matila and Panapasa co-wrote the lyrics to the anthem, while Balekana Balekana composed the music exclusively.
Matila Balekana's husband, Panapasa Balekana, died on 22 January 2009 at their home in Henderson, east of Honiara. [1]

The 2012 OFC Nations Cup was the ninth edition of the OFC Nations Cup organised by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). The group stage of the tournament also doubled as the second round of the OFC qualification tournament for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The four semi-finalists advanced to the final round of OFC qualifying, where they would compete for the OFC spot in the inter-confederation play-offs. The qualifying tournament was to be the football competition at the 2011 Pacific Games in Nouméa, New Caledonia. However, in June 2011 the format was amended, and the Pacific Games were no longer part of the qualification process. The new structure saw four of the lowest ranked entrants play a single round-robin tournament from 22 to 26 November 2011 in Samoa. The winner of this qualifying stage joined the other seven teams that received a bye to the Nations Cup proper.

The Solomon Islands national rugby league team represents Solomon Islands in the sport of rugby league football. They are, in fact, planning a top-level tournament in 2010–11, after the capital of Honiara hosts an inter-city exhibition league, the Honiara Rugby League; expected in August 2009 but now it seems early 2010 will be the most convenient point for when it will be held after an uphold in the delivery of the participating teams jerseys caused delays. They are an unaffiliated nation and were recognised by the RLIF as having official observer status in early 2009. They are scheduled to participate in their first-ever test match against a touring New South Wales Police Team in November 2010.
The 2018 OFC U-16 Championship was the 18th edition of the OFC U-16/U-17 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) for the men's under-16/under-17 national teams of Oceania. The qualifying stage was held in Tonga between 14 and 20 July 2018, and the final tournament was held in the Solomon Islands between 9–22 September 2018.
Merle Aqorau, MBE is a Solomon Islander and social worker who was instrumental in the development of the women's movement in the Solomon Islands. Engaged as a social welfare officer, she established women's clubs in various locations throughout Melanesia, founded a YWCA training centre to assist young women in continuing their education and worked as the regional secretary of the United Church Women's Fellowship (UCWF). Her pioneering service to women in the Solomon Islands was recognised, when she was awarded an MBE in the Order of the British Empire in 2016.
Lillian Maefai is a member of the Parliament of the Solomon Islands. She was only the fifth woman ever to be elected to that parliament.
