Matthew Ray Prokop (born July 29, 1990) [1] is an American former actor. He is known for his roles as Jimmie "The Rocket Man" Zara in the Disney film High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008) and Josh Rosen in the Disney Channel Original Movie Geek Charming (2011).

Early life

Prokop was born in Victoria, Texas, [1] and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 16 to pursue his acting career.

Career

In 2011, Prokop was represented by Management 360 and APA. [2] His first acting job was a brief appearance on Hannah Montana in 2007, followed by a walk-on role on The Office .

He guest starred on Medium (2009) as Kyle "K.C." Covington for one episode. Prokop landed a role in Furry Vengeance (2010), playing Brendan Fraser's son, and he played the role of Josh Rosen in the Disney Channel's Geek Charming (2011), based on author Robin Palmer's novel.

In 2012, he appeared in an episode of Modern Family , opposite then girlfriend and series regular Sarah Hyland. His last acting credit was in the 2013 film April Apocalypse, with his last three film roles being in films starring Hyland, and his last production credit was as a producer of the 2015 film See You in Valhalla , which also starred Hyland. Prokop did not attend the premiere for the latter due to Hyland's restraining order against him.

Personal life

Prokop dated his Geek Charming co-star Sarah Hyland for several years until August 2014, when she left him and filed a temporary restraining order against him for physically and verbally abusing her throughout their four-year relationship. [3] [4] [5] [6] In October 2014, a permanent restraining order was granted, and Prokop has not worked in the entertainment industry since. [7]

On May 18, 2024, Prokop was arrested for alleged aggravated assault against his girlfriend following a public incident and for resisting arrest. He was released on bond shortly after. [8]

Geek Charming is a 2011 American teen comedy-drama film released as a Disney Channel Original Movie. It was directed by Jeffrey Hornaday from a screenplay by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy, and based on the novel of the same name by Robin Palmer. The film stars Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop. It premiered on November 11, 2011, on Disney Channel, on January 27, 2012, on Disney Channel, and on January 28, 2012, on Disney Channel Asia. The premiere was watched by 4.9 million viewers, the fifth largest number for a cable show of that week.
