Matthew Thomas Gitsham (born 1 February 1982) is an English cricketer. Primarily a leg break bowler,he has played for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club having previously represented Somerset Cricket Board in 2001 and Buckinghamshire in Minor counties cricket in 2006.
After playing for the Somerset Cricket Board in the Cheltenham &Gloucester Trophy in 2001 and 2002, [1] Gitsham had to wait six years for a first-class debut with Gloucestershire. He played in an early season friendly match against Loughborough UCCE bowling seven wicketless overs in the first innings and scoring an unbeaten 192 in Gloucestershire's second innings to help his side secure a two-wicket win. [2]
He went on to play three matches in the LV County Championship Division Two later in the season,dismissing Glamorgan's Simon Jones for his first wicket. [3] He was released by Gloucestershire at the end of the 2009 season along with Grant Hodnett. [4]
He has also played for overseas teams Wanneroo DC,in Perth,and Sturt Hill,Adelaide,in Australia. [5]

Andrew Richard Caddick is a former cricketer who played for England as a fast bowler in Tests and ODIs. At 6 ft 5in,Caddick was a successful bowler for England for a decade,taking 13 five-wicket hauls in Test matches. He spent his entire English domestic first-class cricket career at Somerset County Cricket Club,and then played one Minor Counties match for Wiltshire in 2009.
Mushtaq Ahmed Malik is a Pakistani cricket coach and former cricketer who currently acts as the spin bowling coach for the Pakistan Cricket Team. A leg break googly bowler,at his peak he was described as being one of the best three wrist-spinners in the world. In an international career that spanned from 1990 until 2003,he claimed 185 wickets in Test cricket and 161 in One Day Internationals. He was at his most prolific internationally between 1995 and 1998,but his most successful years were as a domestic player for Sussex in the early 2000s.
Steven Michael Davies is an English first-class cricketer,a left-handed batsman who plays for Somerset. He bats in the middle order in first-class cricket and opens in limited-overs. He started as a wicket-keeper,playing ODI and Twenty20 cricket in this role for England and has stated a desire to return to this position.
James Andrew Tomlinson is an English former cricketer. A left-arm medium pace bowler,capable of producing swing at a brisk pace,Tomlinson first appeared in senior cricket for the Hampshire Cricket Board in List A cricket in the 2000 NatWest Trophy. He first appeared for Hampshire in first-class cricket in 2002,at this stage of career he had to work his cricket career around his studies at Cardiff University. In 2003 he was Hampshire's recipient of the NBC Denis Compton Award. His early career with Hampshire was beset by injury,which limited his appearances. By 2008,Tomlinson had established himself in the Hampshire team,mostly as a specialist first-class player. It was in this season that he became the first Hampshire bowler since Malcolm Marshall to end the season as the leading wicket taker in the County Championship,finishing with 67 wickets.
James Cullum Tredwell is an English former international cricketer. A left-handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler,he played his domestic cricket for Kent County Cricket Club and was appointed as County Captain for the 2013 season. He made his debut for Kent in the 2001 season,nine days before his first appearance for England Under-19s. He often fielded at slip. Tredwell was a member of the England team that won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.
James Charles Hildreth is a former English professional cricketer who played for Somerset County Cricket Club. He attended Millfield School,Somerset. He is a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler. Hildreth represented England at all youth levels including the 2003–04 Under-19 World cup held in Bangladesh. He made his first-class debut in 2003 and became a regular member of the side from the start of the 2004 season. The James Hildreth Stand was opened by him at Somerset County Cricket Ground on 21 September 2022.
Michael Burns is an English first-class list cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer who played county cricket for Warwickshire and Somerset in a first-class career which spanned from 1992 until 2005. He also played Minor Counties cricket for Cumberland and Cornwall. An adaptable cricketer,he appeared for Cumberland and Warwickshire as a wicket-keeper,but when he moved to Somerset he developed into an aggressive batsman who bowled at medium-pace when needed.
Steven Kirby is an English retired first-class cricketer,and more recently a cricket coach. Kirby played for Yorkshire,Gloucestershire and Somerset,before retiring from playing in 2014. In 2020,he rejoined Somerset as their bowling coach.
James William Arthur Taylor is an English former cricketer who played for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. A right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm leg break bowler,Taylor made his debut in first-class cricket in 2008 for Leicestershire and made major impressions in his first county seasons. He is noted as being a fine fielder in the covers. He became the youngest Leicestershire one-day centurion and first-class double centurion. In 2009,Taylor also became the youngest player in Leicestershire's history to score 1,000 championship runs in a season.
Edward Sainsbury was an English cricketer who represented,and captained,Somerset County Cricket Club in the late 19th century. During a 10-year first-class cricket career,he also represented Gloucestershire and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Geoffrey Michael Bennett played first-class cricket for Somerset between 1928 and 1939.
George Benjamin Nichols was a professional first-class cricketer who played 134 matches for Somerset,after starting his career with five first-class appearances for Gloucestershire. He was a key part of the Somerset team that won the 'Second-class County Championship' in 1890 by winning twelve of their thirteen matches,tying the other with Middlesex. A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler,he was known for being able to bowl long,accurate spells.
Arthur Edward Newton was an English cricketer who played for Somerset in the county's pre-first-class days and then for more than 20 years after the team entered the County Championship in 1891. He also played for Oxford University and for a variety of amateur teams. As a cricketer,he was known as "A. E.",not by his forename.
Robert Christopher Travers is an English cricketer who made a single List A appearance for Somerset Cricket Board in 2001. He has played for Glastonbury Cricket Club,captaining the side at times. He is a right-arm off break bowler,and lower-order right-handed batsman.

Through their performance in the Twenty20 Cup,the team qualified for the Champions League Twenty20. Jack Martin Robert Taylor is an English cricketer,a right-handed batsman and right-arm leg-break bowler who currently plays for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. He made his first-class debut for Gloucestershire against Derbyshire in August 2010. Taylor signed a two-year contract with Gloucestershire in February 2009. Taylor's younger brother,Matthew Taylor is also a professional player and has played more than 100 games for Gloucestershire.
Grant Phillip Hodnett is a South African-born English cricketer,who holds a British passport from birth and qualified to play for England through residency. Hodnett is a right-handed batsman who bowls leg break. He was born in Johannesburg,Transvaal Province and educated at Northwood High School in Durban.
In 1883,Somerset County Cricket Club played their second season of first-class cricket. They were captained by Stephen Newton,and played in seven matches,six against county opposition,and one against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). They won only one of their seven contests,that against Hampshire at Taunton. Of the remaining matches,the one against the MCC was drawn,and the other five were all losses for Somerset.
