Max TV

Max TV was a New Zealand music channel available on a UHF frequency in Auckland from 28 October 1993 to 3 December 1997.

When Max TV began transmission it was known as Max: The Music Channel. The channel was jointly owned and operated by Aztel Holdings (radio personality Kevin Black, who owned the frequency licence, and his partner Jeff Thorpe) and On-Line Productions, a video production house. [1]

The channel initially broadcast from 4pm until midnight Monday to Thursday; 4pm until 1am on Friday; and 7am until 1am on Saturday and Sunday. By mid-1996 its transmission hours were extended to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

On 20 May 1997, the channel broadcast the music video to Iggy Pop's song "Pussy Walk". Local feminist group Women Against Pornography considered the music video 'offensive and insulting to women'. [2]

On 2 December 1997, Television New Zealand announced that the channel would close down on the following day. [3]

Radio New Zealand Public-service radio broadcast network

Radio New Zealand, commonly known as Radio NZ or simply RNZ, is a New Zealand public-service radio broadcaster and Crown entity that was established under the Radio New Zealand Act 1995. It operates a news and current-affairs network, RNZ National, and a classical-music and jazz network, RNZ Concert, with full government funding from NZ on Air. Since 2014, the organisation's focus has been to transform RNZ from a radio broadcaster to a multimedia outlet, increasing its production of digital content in audio, video, and written forms.

Sky (New Zealand)

Sky Network Television Limited, more commonly known as Sky, is a New Zealand broadcasting company that provides pay television services via satellite, media streaming services and broadband internet services. It is also a wholesale channel provider to New Zealand IPTV provider Vodafone. As at 30 June 2021, Sky had 955,168 subscribers consisting of 561,989 satellite subscribers and 393,179 streaming subscribers. Despite the similarity of name, branding and services, such as Sky Go and MySky shared with its European equivalent, Sky, there is no connection between the companies.

Three is a New Zealand nationwide television channel. Launched on 26 November 1989 as TV3, it was New Zealand's first privately-owned television channel. The channel currently broadcasts nationally in digital free-to-air form via the state-owned Kordia on terrestrial and satellite. Vodafone also carries the channel for their cable subscribers in Wellington and Christchurch. It previously broadcast nationally on analogue television until that was switched off on 1 December 2013.

More FM is a New Zealand radio network that plays hot adult contemporary music. It is operated by MediaWorks New Zealand.

The Breeze is a New Zealand radio station playing an adult contemporary music format owned by MediaWorks New Zealand, playing a variety of music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and also current hits. The Breeze network broadcasts to 21 markets throughout New Zealand, with each station presenting a mixture of local and network programming. From 2017 through to now, The Breeze had phenomenal ratings success becoming New Zealand's number one music station a rise from 5th in 2016 and in 2021 reaching its highest ever audience in excess of 671,000 listeners. The Breeze as of the latest survey results in October 2021 is NZ’s number one music station for the 10th survey in a row.

The Edge (radio station) Radio station

The Edge is a youth-oriented New Zealand entertainment brand consisting of a national radio network, a music television channel - The Edge TV, and an entertainment website. The radio network and website are owned and operated by MediaWorks New Zealand while the TV channel is now owned by Discovery, Inc..

Juice TV, previously Juice, originally was a 24-hour music television channel operating from the Auckland suburb of Parnell in New Zealand. The channel closed on 15 May 2015 and relaunched as a 30-minute-long programme on Garage. The channel then relaunched independently from Garage on Freeview and its own online broadcast.

TVNZ 1 New Zealand television channel

TVNZ 1 is the first national television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ). It was one of the major television broadcasters in New Zealand, starting out from 1960 onwards as independent government-operated facilities in the four main centres of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, and eventually began sharing programming between them all in real time in 1969, becoming NZBC TV. The collective group was renamed Television One in 1975 upon the break-up of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, and became a part of TVNZ in 1980 when Television One and South Pacific Television merged. The channel assumed its current name in October 2016.

The Hits (radio station) Radio station in markets

The Hits is a Hot adult contemporary music radio network, broadcasting to 26 markets across New Zealand. It was set up by Government broadcaster Radio New Zealand in 1993 by consolidating existing stations into a single brand and has been privately owned since 1996. The Hits has had the broadest broadcast reach of any radio network in the country since 1996, and is now available on 40 full-power FM frequencies and 18 iHeartRadio streams.

TVNZ 2 New Zealand television channel

TVNZ 2 is the second New Zealand television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ). It targets a younger audience than its sister channel, TVNZ 1. TVNZ 2's line up consists of dramas, comedies, and reality TV shows. A small number are produced in New Zealand which are either of a comedic, soap opera or reality nature, with rest of the line-up imported from mostly a Warner Bros. or Disney catalogue or a FremantleMedia or Endemol soap opera/reality TV catalogue.

Best News Entertainment

Best News Entertainment is a New Zealand television, radio and print media company specialising in media for Asian migrants and Asian language communities. It currently operates a free-to-air television channel on the Freeview platform and three 24-hour radio networks through terrestrial radio.

MTV (New Zealand TV channel)

MTV New Zealand was a 24-hour general television entertainment channel operated by MTV Networks International. The channel launched on 18 August 2006. From its launch MTV New Zealand employed 23 people at its headquarters in Auckland. MTV New Zealand was replaced with MTV Australia on 30 November 2010 while still retaining localised advertising and website for New Zealand. As of November 2011, MTV.co.nz redirects viewers to MTV.com.au.

MediaWorks New Zealand

MediaWorks New Zealand is a New Zealand-based radio, outdoor advertising and interactive media company jointly owned by U.S. company Oaktree Capital Management and out-of-home advertising company QMS. It operates nine national radio brands, twelve websites and one locally operated radio station.

Home Video Channel (HVC) was a British cable television service devoted to broadcasting low-budget movies from 8.00pm to midnight, and owners also operated The Adult Channel started on 31 January 1992.

The Edge TV

The Edge TV is a New Zealand television channel that was launched in 2014 as an extension of The Edge radio brand, which is owned by MediaWorks New Zealand. In September 2020, MediaWorks sold The Edge TV along with its entire television arm to the United States multinational mass media company Discovery, Inc., with the acquisition being finalised in December 2020.

ZM Wellington Radio station

ZM Wellington is a hit music radio station in Wellington, New Zealand. It is a station of the ZM network, and is owned and operated by New Zealand Media and Entertainment.
