Cry TV

Cry TV was a regional music television station broadcast in Christchurch, New Zealand between 1993 and 1997.

It broadcast on UHF channel 56 using a 100 Watt transmitter from a shed on Marleys Hill, on the Port Hills, near the Sugarloaf Transmitter. It was started by Christian Birch and Chris Clarkson. Test transmissions consisted of a camera looking at an aquarium 24 hours a day for approximately 1 month during July and August 1993.

The channel was notable for the launch of the careers of Petra Bagust [1] [2] and Jason Fa'afoi. Cry TV closed in April 1997, two months before TVNZ launched MTV.

The Wrexham-Rhos transmitting station is a digital television relay of Moel-y-Parc, and forms part of the Wales television region. Television began in Sweden in 1954 with test transmissions, prior to the opening of the first station, Radiotjänst, two years later. A second channel was launched in 1969. Commercial television arrived in the 1980s through cable television and in 1992, the country's first terrestrial commercial channel was launched.

VHF television came on air a few months before the UHF services. As built, the station did not radiate VHF FM radio, this was added later. Currently, the hill's transmitters cater for viewers and listeners in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot area. The transmission station located on top of Kilvey Hill is owned and operated by Arqiva.
