Early life

Chowdhury was born in Chauddagram Upazila, Comilla District. [3] He did his undergraduate and graduate studies in economics at the University of Dhaka. [3] He completed a post-graduate diploma from Murdoch University. [3]

Career

Chowdhury joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1993. [3]

Chowdhury was the Senior Assistant Head of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. [3] He was the deputy director of National Nutrition Project, funded by the World Bank. [3] He was the economic counselor at the Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. [3]

Chowdhury was the Alternative Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. [3] He served as the deputy chief of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and the Power Division. [3]

In 2019, Chowdhury was the executive director of human resources at Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited. [4] [5]

Chowdhury was appointed secretary of the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs in July 2022. [6] He replaced Md Mokabbir Hossain. [7] He was serving as the additional secretary of the Security and Immigration Wing of the Security Services Division. [8] He signed an agreement with United Arab Emirates in October for e-visa. [9] He oversaw the launch of E-Passport services in the Bangladesh embassy in Portugal. [10] He is a member of the governing body of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority. [11]

Chowdhury has asked the personnel of Fire Service and Civil Defence Department, which is under the Security Services Division, to be safe when discharging their duties. [12]

The National Identity Card or NID card is a compulsory identity document issued to every Bangladeshi citizen upon turning 18 years of age by Bangladesh Election Commission (EC). The NID is also a biometric, microchip embedded smart identity card. The NID is required by Bangladeshi citizens for multiple essential public services & private services in Bangladesh. Initially, paper-based laminated NID cards were issued in 2006. Then, the paper-based laminated NID cards were replaced by the Smart NID cards in 2016.
