Md. Nazim Uddin was a Bangladeshi freedom fighter. He was awarded Bir Protik for his contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh . [1]

Biography

Nazim Uddin's father's name was Arab Ali and his mother's name Misri Begum. He was in East Pakistan Rifles in 1971. [2] After the declaration of independence of Bangladesh he decided to take part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. He was appointed in Sholoshahar, Chittagong at that time. [2]

Nazim Uddin and other freedom fighters joined with other freedom fighters of East Bengal Regiment in Brahmanbaria in April. They were in Ashuganj Upazila to protect the place from Pakistanis. He also attacked Dharampasha Thana of Sunamganj in guerrilla style along with other freedom fighters in May and got success. [2] Later, he crossed the border and went to India. He trained new freedom fighters in India.

In November Nazim Uddin and other freedom fighters went to Golapganj, Sylhet from India. They destroyed the defence of Pakistanis in Komolpur, Golapganj. After independence he was awarded Bir Protik from Bangladesh Government for his contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Nazim Uddin was married to Shamima Aktar. They had two daughters. [2]

Nazim Uddin died on 2 May 2019 at the age of 84. [3]

The Mukti Bahini, also known as the Bangladesh Forces, was the guerrilla resistance movement consisting of the Bangladeshi military, paramilitary and civilians during the Bangladesh Liberation War that transformed East Pakistan into Bangladesh in 1971. They were initially called the Mukti Fauj.

Z Force, also known as Tura Brigade, was the first military brigade of Bangladesh Forces formed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 under Major Ziaur Rahman along with the consent of the revolutionary government of Bangladesh in exile. The brigade was formed with the 1st, 3rd and 8th Battalion of East Bengal Regiment on 7 July 1971. It is the first ever complete brigade formed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

The existing Bangladeshi honours system was created after Independence of Bangladesh. The highest civilian honours are the Independence Award and Ekushey Padak. They are awarded every year. The awards are civilian awards for a broad set of achievements in fields such as Education, Arts, Civil Service, or Social Service and Liberation War. Awards were also bestowed posthumously and they are not given for foreign citizens.

Dewan Mahbubur Rob Sadi Chaudhuri was a 1971 Liberation War veteran and war hero who valiantly led the Jalalpur sub-sector as Sub-Sector Commander of the Bangladesh Liberation Army under Sector Commander Maj Gen C. R. Datta. Sadi was awarded Bir Protik on 15 December 1973 for demonstration of personal acts of valor during the War. He was elected Member of the Parliament in 1979. Besides being a freedom fighter and politician, Sadi was also a singer, poet, columnist and songwriter. He was an active columnist for the Daily Manab Zamin and his articles and letters appeared in various national and international newspapers and magazines like The Economist, The Daily Star, The Daily Ittefaq and Prothom Alo. Sadi served as the Executive Director of Delta Life Insurance Company Ltd, and later founded a socio-political organization named Centre for Democratic Practice, dedicated towards fostering democracy and national consciousness and consensus in Bangladesh.

Mohammad Azizur Rahman Retired Major General of Bangladesh Army and a heroic freedom fighter of the Liberation War. For his bravery in the war of independence, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the title of Bir Uttam.

Mohammad Shafique Ullah was a prominent Bangladeshi freedom fighter and retired colonel of the Bangladesh Army. He served as one of only three Field Commissioned Officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the Liberation War of 1971, as officially documented in the Bangladesh Gazette. For his exceptional bravery and service during the war, Shafique Ullah was awarded the prestigious Bir Protik, the fourth-highest gallantry award for military personnel in Bangladesh.
