Md Jahangir Alam is the former secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. [1] He was forced into retirement and detained after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government. [2] [3] He is a former secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration. [4]

Alam was the secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat. [5] He was the secretary of the Health Services Division in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. [6]

Career

Alam joined the 13th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1994 in the administrative branch. [7] He was appointed as an Assistant Commissioner. [7]

Alam was promoted to secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration in October 2022. [8] He is a former additional secretary at the Public Security Division. [8]

On 2 November 2022, Alam was appointed secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat while Shafiul Azim replaced him at the Election Commission. [8] He was the secretary of the Election Commission during the 2024 Bangladeshi general election which was boycotted by a number of opposition parties including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. [9]

In October 2023, Alam was appointed secretary of the Health Service Division. [10] In May 2024, Alam was appointed Secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. [11]

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government, Alam was removed from the post of Secretary of the Public Security Division and sent into retirement on 15 August 2024. [9] After which ten criminal cases were filed against him. [12] He was arrested by Detective Branch on 1 October from his home in Gulshan and confirmed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner of Detective Branch. [13] [14] The police called him "architect of dummy elections". [15] He was sent to jail by Arifur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, in a case filed over the death of a teenager during the Anti-discrimination Students Movement against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after a five-day remand. [16] He had been sent on remand on the orders of Belal Hossain, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, on 1 October. [16] He was represented by Mohammad Yaar Khan and Morshed Hossain Shaheen. [17] There are 176 accused in the case including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Minister of Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. [18] [17]

Extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances in Bangladesh refer to extrajudicial executions carried out by law enforcement agencies without due legal process and to abduction cases in which the government directly or indirectly kidnaps people and holds them incommunicado. From 2009 to 2023, at least 2,699 people were victims of extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh. During the period, 677 people were forcibly disappeared, and 1,048 people died in custody. From 2004 to 2006, at least 991 people were killed extrajudicially by "death squad" the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The practice of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances primarily involves law enforcement agencies such as the RAB and the Detective Branch (DB) of the police.

Md. Zahangir Alam is a former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, an Awami League politician and businessman. Aligned with the Bangladesh Awami League, he was elected as the second mayor of the Gazipur City Corporation in July 2018. He is the managing director of Honourable Textile Composite Ltd and Z Alam Apparels. He was the general secretary of Gazipur metropolitan Awami League until he was expelled by Awami League central working committee on 19 November 2021. Jahangir was pardoned and got back his Awami League membership on 1 January 2023. The LGRD Ministry suspended Alam on 25 November 2021 from the mayor post of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on the allegations of illegal land grabbing, not compensating people after taking over land for development and working against the public interest.

Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi politician and a former Member of Parliament representing the Faridpur-4 constituency. He has been missing along with his brother Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury Liton and other family members, ever since the resignation of his aunt Sheikh Hasina on 5 August 2024.

Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey, also spelled Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, On 21 October 2024, the Ministry of Public Administration of Yunus' interim government appointed him as ambassador for three years. He is an Senior Secretary of Bangladesh government and Washington DC–based Bangladeshi journalist known for asking questions at the press briefings of the United States Department of State. He is a permanent correspondent of the United Nation headquarters. He was the assistant press secretary to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. He was a well known critic of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Md Aminul Islam Khan is a retired Bangladeshi civil servant and former senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was the secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. He was arrested and charged with murder of the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government.

Mohammad Abdul Momen is a civil servant and secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was appointed after the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina and he sent a number of police officers into retirement after his appointment. He is a member of the board of governors of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies.
