Public Security Division is a Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bangladesh. It is responsible for public security and overseas the civilian security agencies of Bangladesh. [1] Aminul Islam Khan is the current head of the Division and holds the rank of Senior Secretary. [2] [3]

History

Public Security Division is the part of the Ministry of Home Affairs which was established in 1971 by the Government of Bangladesh in exile during the Bangladesh Liberation war. [1] In June 2016, the Government of Bangladesh divided the Ministry of Home Affairs into two Divisions, Public Security Division and the Security Service Division. [4] [5] The official gazette on the split was issued in 2017. [6]

Its officers and sailors are transferred from Bangladesh Navy, and most of the medical officers are transferred from Bangladesh Army. The Bangladesh Coast Guard also performs the duty of maritime border security of Bangladesh. The headquarters is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently the coast guard has 3,339 personnel and 63 ships. A modernisation plan named Coast Guard Goal 2030 has been undertaken to enhance its capabilities.

The Bangladesh Police of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is a law enforcement agency, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It plays a crucial role in maintaining peace, and enforcement of law and order within Bangladesh. Though the police are primarily concerned with the maintenance of law and order and security of persons and property of individuals, they also play a big role in the criminal justice system. The Judiciary of Bangladesh or Judicial system of Bangladesh is based on the Constitution and the laws are enacted by the legislature and interpreted by the higher courts. Bangladesh Supreme Court is the highest court of Bangladesh. The jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has been described in Article 94(1) of the Constitution of Bangladesh. It consists of two divisions, the High Court Division and the Appellate Division. These two divisions of the Supreme Court have separate jurisdictions.

It is responsible for overseeing 25227 High schools and 37 public universities and 92 private universities. Md. Sohorab Hossain is the Secretary and Head of the Division.

National Committee on Security Affairs (NCSA) is the highest policy-making authority on national security of the Government of Bangladesh. Headed by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed, the committee was formed in March 2019 after 'the National Defence Policy-2018' was approved by the Cabinet of Bangladesh. The committee consists of 27 members.

Md Mozammel Haque Khan is the Commissioner (enquiry) of Anti-Corruption Commission with the rank of a Bangladesh High Court Judge. He is a former Senior Secretary. He is the Chief National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts and President of Bangladesh Karate Federation.
