Canadian hardcore punk originated in the early 1980s. It was harder, faster, and heavier than the Canadian punk rock that preceded it. Hardcore punk is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. The origin of the term "hardcore punk" is uncertain. The Vancouver-based band D.O.A. may have helped to popularize the term with the title of their 1981 album, Hardcore '81. Hardcore historian Steven Blush said that the term "hardcore" is also a reference to the sense of being "fed up" with the existing punk and new wave music. Blush also states that the term refers to "an extreme: the absolute most Punk." One definition of the genre is "a form of exceptionally harsh punk rock."
Gus van Go is a Juno-nominated music producer, mixer, and musician. He is best known for his work with the Montreal band The Stills, with credits for production, mixing, writing and arranging three albums and one EP with the band. He has also produced and mixed material for a number or artists, including Arkells, The Sam Roberts Band, Whitehorse, Wintersleep, Michael Rault, Terra Lightfoot, Hollerado, Said The Whale, The Trews, and Priestess. He is also a member of the band Megative, along with Tim Fletcher and Jamaican reggae vocalist Screechy Dan.
October Sky is a Canadian rock band from Montreal, Canada. Formed in 2000, the group currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Karl Raymond and drummer Alex Racine. The style of their early music, including their debut album Hell Isn't My Home, has been described as progressive, but they started to add several electronic elements to their sound on subsequent albums. The Aphotic Season was the first step in that new direction but their latest EP Rise marked a major shift in their sound.
Hell Isn't My Home is the debut full-length studio album by October Sky, released on September 2, 2008. It was originally released independently on October 10, 2007, but was released officially as a double album under TRX Distribution, a Quebec-based record distributor. The second disc is a bonus disc which features the first three songs of the band's first EP October Sky EP. In 2009, the company was bought out by DEP under Universal Music Canada, and October Sky and Universal failed to reach an agreement to continue distributing the album.
Antennas to Hell is the first greatest hits compilation album by American heavy metal band Slipknot. The album was released on July 23, 2012, in the United Kingdom and July 24, 2012, in the United States by Roadrunner Records. The title is a reference to the critically acclaimed post-rock album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, released by the band Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 2000. The album features hit singles, fan favorites, and live tracks. The two-disc version of Antennas to Hell features a bonus live CD capturing Slipknot's performance at the 2009 Download Festival in Donington Park, England. The three-disc version includes a bonus DVD featuring every Slipknot music video and ten brand new video features, titled "Broadcasts from Hell", created by Shawn Crahan. It is the first album released by the band since late bassist Paul Gray's death in 2010. Despite being a greatest hits collection, Clown of Slipknot has stated that it's more of a tribute to what Slipknot were and used to be at the time of the songs, and also said that the collection comes with much artwork and DVD content.
Sound of Contact is a British-based progressive rock band currently consisting of Matt Dorsey and Dave Kerzner, with Simon Collins and Kelly Nordstrom previously being members. Formed in 2009, the band released their debut album in May 2013.
